Just looking for recommendations for a personal documents safe to store my passport, birth cert, etc.
I rent so I won't be able to bolt it down, but just something that's gonna be reasonably hard to break into and fireproof is what I'm after.

Store it at ur work? If u work in office pretty safe here
I got a small Honeywell safe to store documents in but I don't use it for that purpose because I found that paper goes mouldy in there. It is a humidity factory. I tried using silica gel moisture absorbing sachets- hassle- but it did not seem to fix the problem Maybe I didn't regenerate them often enough- hassle. Now I keep the docs in a manilla folder in a desk drawer.

Is the problem of humidity a general safe problem or is it particular to my humid climate?
thief 1 "wow, look a personal safe that's not attached to anything"
thief 2 "bummer it's locked. forget about it"
thief 1 "just take it to a 10 storey car park and drop it on to the concrete below to crack it"
thief 2 "dam no green stuff or shiny stuff"
…so where would you suggest storing important documents?
False bottom draw.
Behind fridge.
Under kitchen cupboards - remove the skirting board stuff.
Within couch.
In ceiling.
Within a crappy coat that hangs on the back of your bedroom door.
In cistern
