Public taxi stand at main Bangkok airport changed?

Can someone please confirm where one officially gets a taxi nowadays? I know you can get one as they drop passengers off on third level if you want to do that.Think official spot has changed. Anyone able to help? Thanks.

  • Taxi? You mean people still use them and not Grab?

    • The problem with Grab in Thailand is not all drivers know how to speak english, so trying to determine the exact pick-up location at the airport is tough to say the least.

The public taxi stand is good enough as most drivers in my experience use the meter.

  • Direct from airport website

Since taxi drivers in Thailand are my eternal enemy I would even pay more for an Uber and I'm Uber tight :) Nah, I'm kidding I would bus it or walk for a 2 days.

I don't know if the problem has been solved since I was there years ago but Bangkok airport's official tourist desk was just as bad the touts that were following me. I would get a sim card from the airport and use the GRAB app just so you can remind the taxi drivers that we control them now. Just be sure to pay in CASH and not to register a credit card since some Thai drivers will try and scam you into paying twice. In Phuket this is essential. Give them the middle finger from me.

  • I'm not sure to be honest, however you can always ask at the Customer Service Desk. They're generally on most levels, I believe. I usually walk up the departures as soon as I arrive and grab a taxi right away. The taxi drivers may presume you live there if you're getting a cab from departures as opposed to arrivals.

I was there in August 2016… I caught a taxi from the airport,
as I recall on the arrivals level you literally walk straight out, and follow the signs for taxi

there used to be a "Desk" where you tell/show them where you're going and they'll translate for local driver…however I'm not certain that desk was still there in August

Taxi driver rides in Bangkok from the airport can be hair raising…I recall one trip had heavy rain, driver doing about 160kph along the freeway near airport and weaving through lanes… another time they tried asking me to pay for their fuel…. I do think they are a lot better now than they used to be!

depending on where you are going in Bangkok the train (basement of airport terminal) may be a good option, to get you into "town"?

    • I agree. Take the train to the closest stop and then use the Grab app if possible (or if you can't be bothered with SIMs, maybe walk a block away from the train station to reduce the density of scum).

  • Ignore all of the 'Taxi touts' on arrivals level. Go down to level One. (You take a long flat escalator from arrivals - it is able to accommodate your trolley) At level 1 turn left off the escalator - that is the oonly way that you can go anyway….go out of the big rotating glass door, and then look for the self service booths per the photos at http://suvarnabhumiairport.com/en/117-taxi
There is always someone there to assist you with the self service. But, unless you are more than 2 people, tell him that you want a "SMALL TAXI" You can say "Tek-si Lek Lek". If you get into one of the large 4wd size taxi's you will always have an arguement about whether he will go on the meter. To normal taxis just say "mee-dter…mee-dter" and you will get it.
If he asks "Highway?" Say "yes". That means that you will go via the tollway. Sometimes they just go the tollway without asking. There is a 50 THB Airport taxi fee to be added by you to the final meter reading price, and you will have to pay the tolls to him in cash when he reaches the toll booths. Total tolls 75 baht. Oh, and by the way, most taxis in Bangkok are pretty good. I wish that I could say the same about the ones in Phuket.

  • I was there yesterday. Its in the spot its always been. Tell the taxi driver you want the meter no matter what.
