I traded Pokemon cards in the 90's but that was in a school yard not on a forum. Whats the point of this post?

  • did you even read the post?

I buy from this site mainly when I preorder a booster box found them via FB otherwise I usually pick up the odd booster pack from ebgames when they have 20% off.

  • Nice, I might look into that page.
I know that Gametraders (you can find 1) always have 4 for $20.
and there box prices beat EB by a fair bit as well.

    • Game traders used to be my go to! Unfortunately they closed in Melbourne. I remember picking up some great deals there.

  • Your local hobby store might host Pokemon events. If you head in at that time, I'm sure you'll find people to trade and/or play with.

You can try to find an event here - https://www.pokemon.com/us/play-pokemon/pokemon-events/find-…

I find the site a bit hard to use, so you can try one from Wizards of the Coast. Although it's for Magic and D&D events, many of the same stores also stock Pokemon and host events - http://locator.wizards.com/

  • Man see if you can find a local hobby store, they're usually cheap as, or cheapest I get boosters at $5 each, usually i see them at about 6.50 somtimes even 7 for older ones.

They're usually good in teaching you how to play as well, though if you're kicking at getting into it early try hitting up the PTCGO online game man, http://www.pokemon.com/us/pokemon-tcg/play-online/ its for the most part free, you learn how to play, you get free boosters, its fun enough, and theres always people to verse, definitely recommend for people starting out.

  • Shame about that Gametraders closing. the guys in Canberra are awesome.

I know you can probably find better prices online, but I kept seeing EB pre ordering SUN & Moon booster boxes (36 Packs) on 'special' at $198, when Gametraders sell everyday at $178 (less then $5 a pack)
which is what made me think to start the Pokémon post.

might post it as a Bargain still.

    • I would never purchase a box through EB thats why I only go through the Wilds Depo for those, ends up just under $4 a pack.

Usually pay just over $5 single pack when i decided to grab a few when EB has there sale I don't have any independents nearby which sucks.

Gametraders closing was unfortunate they had pretty much the same deals as Canberra by the looks of it. Plus I noticed I found older packs there often which was a bonus.

      • $143.99 here If you are interested. Will have to add a postage quote but will ultimately be cheaper then in store.

eBay from a reputable seller(gameology or gameholic) with the ebay 10%off code is like $130 for the sun&moon booster boxes.

  • I personally prefer the online version of the game, far more convenient, can play people from all around the world, and my partner and I can vs each other on our iPad's. You can also purchase codes for a fraction of the price of physical cards, on ebay.

e.g. Purchased 76 Sun and Moon booster codes (760 cards) on ebay for $51, would have cost $300+ in physical cards.

Still get my fair share of physical cards though, can't resist some of the boxes and the occasional booster pack.

  • Also, booster pack weighing is an issue that you should be familiar with, if you plan on purchasing booster packs on ebay / Gumtree etc.

Ha, I did that, that was totally my game in 2010

  • This info is a few years out of date, but when I was playing I bought my stuff from http://www.trollandtoad.com/
Postage costs a bit, so you have to order a few boxes to make it worth it.

But better than that, I found it was cheaper to buy boosters during the special release events. What will happen is, during a special event you will pay $15, get 5 boosters and use those to make up a deck. But at the game store I was going to, they didn't mind if you purchased many tickets to these events. You only had the time to play once, but you ended up with stacks of boosters that cost $3 each, cheaper even than buying them buy the box in some cases. I don't know if you can still do that, but its worth looking into

    • Troll and Toad have cheaper prices especially for singles and have a great range of stock. I tend to buy a lot of my mtg singles there paying $5 postage on a $50 purchase or higher (that's pretty easy to reach anyway). Only down side is their customer service is equivalent to ctrl+v (which means sale reps spam responses using pre-written responses that are useless if you need assistance with your order) and shipping takes anywhere from 3 to 6 weeks (NSW). If you are looking for more expensive singles I'd say get onto ebay and use those discount codes to make the cost cheaper, I've been able to snag pretty decent bargains thanks to eBay. Hope this info can help other tcg players!

  • So I heard and watched on youtube (and then confirmed) that the SUN and Moon boxes have a pattern at which the Rare and above cards are placed.
in un-opened box, open the first 3 packs on 1 side. there remember the order, 1 of the 3 packs will have the rare or above card in it, also can identify by the white code card (majority white, instead of green) then follow the pattern of every third pack will be white.
    find green>skip 2, open third
I did this, then realised I would take all the fun out of opening and finding rares so shuffled my remaining packs
