  • omg another scoopon type of website..
pls put MELB on the title…

    • These sites are viral lol

      • But oh so good. I've gone through heaps of these. Much better than the usual 25-30% you'll get off with coupons. As long as they keep the deals good, keep it up, I say.

        • agree.. bought few (maybe many) from them.

        • Agree also, they generally seem to have better quality deals and places than the other sites.

  • has anyone looked at the menu for this restaurant?
is there only 5 dishes? anyone eaten here?

    • Hi there!

They only showcase some of the menu items on their website.

Ibuki have told us that they are about to launch a new menu in 2-3 days. We'll keep everyone updated as soon as they release it.

      • when they say a new menu, do they have an indication of what will be the major changes, including overall price increases?

I ask because, one seafood restaurant I went to changed their menu and became effectively bar style finger food :S

        • Hi foundit,

The restaurant will release their menu in around 2 days time. No spills yet.
We'll post their menu up on our website as soon as they pass it on to us.

          Cheers,

@crowdmass: … so people don't know what they're really getting with these vouchers …

The new menu could be 50% more expensive …
Dishes people would've wanted could be gone …
Less expensive dishes could all be removed from the menu?

I know I'm sounding pessimistic but could you ask the restaurant to make some sort of reassurances about what will be on the new menu, since people are buying relying on the old menu and old anecdotes?

update: I just re-read your reply. My apologies for missing that you already said you will update with menus in the next day or so

@crowdmass: I just spoke with someone from Ibuki (Thu 1:23pm).

            He said:
            - he just sent the lunch menu to Crowdmass
            - he will price the dinner menu and send it to Crowdmass tomorrow
            - depending on what's available he will be increasing the sushi and sashimi selection
            - there will be new set menus added (one $50 and one $80)
            - yes, the $25 Tempura dish shown on the website will still be available
            - entrees are $5 to $15

:) looking forward to seeing the menus soon and … I'm probably going to get in on this one too :)

  • are there any other hidden t&c's with these. I'm a bit skeptical as its over 50% off for a meal. For example is it available for use everyday, lunch and dinner and not just on weekdays? Can the voucher be used for drinks?

    • Hi tchi6,

There are no hidden terms and conditions.

Yes - You can use it everyday for lunch and dinner.
Yes - The voucher can be used for both food and drinks.

Ibuki is promoting their new menu so it's a fantastic opportunity to try it out at such an exclusive rate.

Feel free to ask any more questions. :)

    Crowdmass,

Q1. Just double check, if i buy 2 vouchers, can I use it in one transaction?
It shows "No limit on number of vouchers used per dining table" but I need to double check.

Q2. If I bring a lot of people say 2 tables (15 people) and I buy 4 vouchers, can I use all these 4 vouchers for both tables or I need to split 2 vouchers per table?

    Please confirm. Thanks

    • I called the Flinders store and the guy told me yes, if we have 2 vouchers we can order up to $200 to be used with the vouchers but say you have ordered up to $180, the remaining $20 will be unredeemable - which is fine.

An official confirmation would be good.

EDIT: Wow, I sent an email asking CrowdMass and they rang me up (my fault, my number is attached in my signature) and cleared up the confusion. Great service.

    • Hi Surat,

      Great questions!

A1. Yes, there are no problems with that. You can use 2 or more vouchers in one transaction.

A2. No problems! You can use all those 4 vouchers for both tables. There's no need to split 2 vouchers per table.

On that note, they can cater for 15 people per table - so all of you could fit on one table. Make sure you book though.

  • Also, how are the vouchers delivered. Are we sent an actual voucher or do we get an email that we print out

    • Hi tchi6,

When the deal ends (next Monday noon), we'll send you an email telling you how to download your unique voucher. You just need to print it off and take it to the restaurant.

      Cheers,

  • Crowdmass,

is there vegetarian options in the menu?

  • Crowdmass/David,

Could you please reply to my questions above.

At Akanie, yes there are vegetarian dishes in the menu but not sure about the price/size. You can call the restaurant to double check or go there to check it out yourself.
I myself will check it for my vegetarian friend.

    • thanks

      • I just called the restaurant and the guy said they have 20 vegetarian dishes so hopefully they are correct :) otherwise my vegetarian friend only see a lot of seafoods :(

        • Hi akanie and surat,

Just confirmed that the restaurant has various vegetarian choices!
          Some of those include:

          Agedashi Tofu (Crispy fried tofu)
          Kaisou Salad
          Vegetarian Tempura
          Various Noodle dishes.

          Hope that helps.

            • @surat: Just answered it above :)

              • @crowdmass: opss sorry. thanks for the fast reply.

          • @crowdmass: thanks for the info

  • My work is near Ibuki (Flinders Ln) so we drop by for lunch from time to time. The lunch sets (from $16) appear expensive initially but after you factor in the good quality food, portions, miso soup and included drink it's actually a pretty good deal. I've also scanned the dinner menu, there's good selection in there as well as some banquet choices - I was totally unaware of the upcoming new menu so my experience is based on the previous/current menu.

There are 2 Ibuki restaurants to my knowledge, the big plus is the head poncho himself (Ibuki-san) is based at the Flinders Ln base - he has a habit of walking through the restaurant from time to time. Hope that helps ppl. I would personally recommend Ibuki as a restaurant worth trying.

  • Anything coming up for Sydneysiders?

    • Possibly :)

  • Love the enthusiasm, Crowdmass Dave.

  • Hi David, I've read from some food blogs that there was a 10 person minimum per booking. Could you find out if this is indeed the case?

  • Hi,

The minimum booking of 10 was for the old restaurant in Bentleigh. There are no such restrictions for the current offer.

    Ta.

    David.

  • Crowdmass/David,

Do we need to tell Ebuki about the voucher in advance/booking or we can just give the voucher when paying the bill?
    Thanks.

  • Hi Surat,

It'll be best to tell them about it when you're booking :)

    Cheers,

    David

    • hi david, when do you expect the new menu to be out,
will you post a copy of it?

      • The restaurant will send it to us in 1-2 days time. We'll post a link on our website straight away. :)

      • Hi,

Ibuki just sent us their lunch menu. They're still working on their dinner menu and will be releasing it very soon :) As usual, we'll keep everyone posted.

Here's the link to their lunch menu.

        • lunch menu looks good, you wouldn't happen to have a drinks menu too?
          thanks!

  • How good is the food there? Any review?

  • Hmmm…maybe cheap for a reason!

"rip off" by hatori (1 review)
January 31, 2010 - Doesn't like it - rip off, was too expensive $80 p/head for worst japanese food ever!! don't believe the hype!!

Phone mobile review by Mel D (9 reviews)
December 28, 2009 - Doesn't like it - Horrible! The worst Japanese I have ever had, don't believe the reviews, there is no way this restaurant will last!

    • not sure how well those reviews will apply for the flinders lane store (those urbanspoon reviews are for the lonsdale store). i had a pleasant visit there a few weeks ago - considering another visit soon after these vouchers come in.

    • I was thinking twice after that, but a friend of mine who's pretty critical said it was okay and she'd consider going back with a larger group of friends. (She went to the Lonsdale restaurant)

  • sweet deal, keep it up

  • Are black and white prints, okay?

    • +1

      Black and white is fine.

      Enjoy!

  • Hi crowdmass,

It was a fantastic dinner I've had tonight. Even the new menu is slightly more expensive than the previous one, it is still the best-value Japanese banquet dinner I have ever had (and then 50% off on top of the bill). It totally worths.

What I concern is, the staff there didn't seem like checking the voucher's validity. They just took it and quickly issued the invoice. What happens if someone purposely print the voucher twice and use it at different time??? Will you charge back the original buyers of the vouchers, whose name and credit card info you have in your database??

    Thnx for the deal!

    • Hi Josh,

Glad you enjoyed your experience at Ibuki!

The staff have a list of all the vouchers and do check them off (probably at the end of the day as they can get quite busy). Luckily in the country we live in - there is still an amount of trust that people are honest.

We don't keep any credit card information in our database as PayPal deals with our payment system.

Thanks for bringing it up though, we'll contact Ibuki to make sure they are more cautious of people potentially pulling the dodgy.

      Cheers,

      David
