Oppo F1s or Huwaei GR5

Which of the two would you choose. Both same price ($250). Which is better spec wise and camera wise?

Cheers.

  • Redmi Note 3 Pr (global edition)
I brought one. Its a great phone

  • Rather not go for grey import

Can't speak for the Huawei, but I've been using the F1s for about a month now and I'm very happy with it. Battery life is excellent and camera is pretty good (the back camera, can't comment on the front facing camera because the subject matter bothers me).

Note, the Color OS takes a little getting used to, but isn't so far removed from Android that it's unrecognizable.

Color OS is crap.. the power saving is so aggressive it closes EVERYTHING in the background!
      So frustrating!
Have they sorted out all the issues with Project Spectrum yet?
My first and last Oppo was an R7 that got bricked by the Project Spectrum update.
Oppo sent me an R7S as a replacement that I sold for $400 and bought a Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro.

  • The GR5's camera (known as the Honor 5x in other countries) was given a not so impressive review by GSM arena team

The Oppo F1s was given a better review but because this is a budget device there are also some flaws

if you are a serious shutter bug you should avoid both phones altogether and just pay the extra money and get an older flagship phone. Like an S5 or LG G3 or Xperia Z3. These are all sub $400 phones, around $330-360

    • I don't know if it's the same but on the F1f (snapdragon predecessor to the F1s), the camera was significantly better in RAW mode than JPG.

  • FWIW - couldn't get the Oppo F1s to work with aldimobile.

    • Think there's a optus locked/crippled version and an unlocked version

      • hmmm - this one came new from ebay, saying it was unlocked. But it was preloaded with optus software. It worked with TPG, but not Aldimobile.

Might have been unlocked, but the Optus version is crippled (in software) as well so that it only works on Optus frequencies.
Having said that, I'd expect ALDImobile 4G to work, but there would be no 3G (and therefore no calls, unless the F1s supports VoLTE which I doubt)

        • @scubacoles:

Explains why the SMS worked but calls didn't - cheers!

  • Picked up the f1s for under $250 via lucky officeworks price match. Works fine with my telstra sim.

    • which officeworks?

  • Was auburn officeworks where pm was approved. They had no stock so organised for me to pick up at Fivedock
