Best Prepaid Sim - Data Not Required, Long Credit Expiry Preferred

Hi All,

As the title says: Data not required, Long Credit Expiry Preferred.

The phone is for my mother who I know will not be using data. It will mainly be used for receiving calls and the occasional phone call ($10 call credit per month should be sufficient). She uses the home phone quite a lot so this is really just a phone for when she is out.

I don't want to refill the phone with $30.00 every month due to short credit expiry.

Ideally, would like something not on a contract at about $10 a month.

Any suggestions? :)

Thank you.

Aldimobile or Amaysim As You Go with 365 day credit expiry?

Aldimobile - you can put a certain amount of $'s on to the mobile eg $20 and it will last for 1 year. And you can top up as it is used of course. Naturally phone calls are more expensive this way (12c per minute)- but it is the length of time that you want.

My parents in their 80's have a smart phone each and they have a bundle for home phone calls an internet with iinet. They each added a plan to this bundle of $15 per month for their mobiles. I think that is the cheapest you could get with iinet. They don't use it all up in a month but they prefer a plan idea and one payment for the lot.

Yes, it was a suggestion for the OP; I have used both.

Vodafone also has a prepaid plan called - Pay As You Go Plus.
    Details here.

    E.g. $30 Plan
When in Australia this Starter Pack includes
$30 My Credit. Excludes premium services.
    365 day expiry period.
    And these rates
    20c/min for standard national calls.
20c for each TXT here and overseas.
    2c per MB for data.
Standard international calls that start at 2c/min.

      Yeah I missed this post and ended up writing something else below;

This is pretty good. Pair with a half price starter pack and you'll be in heaven.

Amaysim - have my parents on it. I think it can go as low as $10 per 6 months, and PAYG for calls/text at 12c/min

Even better now, expiry is 365 days. That $10 was based on $5 every 90 days.

Haha shows you how long its been since I've had to recharge my parents phones then! The reminder emails that expiry come to me.

Yomojo has a $0 PAYG plan, good for non data users like your mother (and my parents)

One day my parents will need this kind of setup, except with data. They chew through a lot of data :(

I'll be very surprised if you can find anything more suitable than Aldi. Put $30 in it and that will probably do for the 365 days. Even better if you or the people she is likely to call on mobile phone are on Aldi then you get free Aldi-to-Aldi calls and messages.

No free Aldi-Aldi calls on PAYG, only when you have a Value Pack, the smallest of which is "S" at $15/month. Regardless, PAYG for this instance does seem to be the best plan for them.

        Thanks for the correction.

Another vote for ALDImobile. I think the PAYG Go$15 with 365-day credit expiry should suit her needs.

My parents are in the excat same situation as yours and I signed them up on Lycamobile. They pay $10 (credit has no expiry date) and this usually last them for a year. Whats even better is that they can call each other for free (I know it says its only for 30 days on their website, however this is not the case as the free calls is still working after the 30 days).

Calls/texts to other Non-Lycamobiles are also pretty reasonable.

    • If you are meaning Pay as You Go rates - then Lycamobile does charge a flag fall of 29c per call. Which makes a call quite expensive if it is a simple Hello - I am OK kind of call. It's not going to last a year if a call like that is made every day, because of the flag fall charge.

Amaysim and Aldi don't charge a flag fall. Their Pay as you Go rates are 12c/minute for a call.

      • Yes I was referring to the Pay as You Go rates. As my parents use their mobiles to call each other 95% of the time this works out very well/cost effective for them.

In this situation I believe it outweighs the higher cost and flag fall when calling non-lycamobile numbers.

Vodafone half price starter pack might be good.

Data is super cheap, just port them in and out to stay on cheaper pro-rata rates. Works out as 1 cent per mb.

I have just put my mum on the Kogan plan mentioned above. As they say, about $10 a month but also UNLIMITED calls so mum doesn't have to worry about running out. She won't use the data either but still the cheapest plan around. I have paid for 12 months. Only Con is it's the Vodafone network but she lives in the city so shouldn't be an issue for her.

I'm with Telstra because they're the only carrier who works in my situation (I'm on a battle-axe property). The other reason I like this plan is the CreditMe2U facility Telstra offers; I can send between $1-10 to another prepaid Telstra plan customer which is useful for a 2nd mobile or family/friends who run out of credit.

I pay $70 for 365 days when I sign up with the Long Life plan. Then I change to the Simplicity plan for better value. Telstra allows 10 plan changes per year. You can do all these changes online quickly and hassle-free. I know you don't need data, but it's 10c/MB which could be useful when using a public transport app or if you need to access Maps.

To recharge for the following year, change the plan back to Long Life, recharge once you get the text message that your plan has been changed. After the recharge is successful, change the plan back to Simplicity. Ignore the text that tells you that you need to recharge for the Simplicity pricing to take effect.

Here are the plan details for anyone who might need them. http://prepaidplans.com.au/mobile-phone/telstra-prepaid-plan…

Just read in the Aldi brochure that they have a special happening on Saturday 4/02 - $249 for one year's worth of 4G unlimited standard calls; unlimited standard SMS; Unlimited MMS with 42 GB included Data. Aldi uses Telstra's network. That does work out to $20.75 per month for all unlimited (but not to international, satellite or premium numbers) and on a monthly average of 3.5 GB for Data. You can always buy more data if you run out, I guess.

Its on sale until 24/03 if stocks last till then and can be activated up to 31/01/18. Got to pay up front of course.
