PSA: Hewlett Packard Battery Recall due to fire risk: Affected models incl. Probook, Pavillion, Envy, Compaq Presario

HP is recalling batteries used in a variety of the company's laptops because of fire concerns.

The affected models include the HP ProBook, HP ENVY, Compaq Presario and HP Pavillion laptops sold between March 2013 and October 2016.

In January 2017, in cooperation with various government regulatory agencies, HP announced an expansion of its ongoing worldwide voluntary safety recall and replacement program for certain notebook computer batteries, which was announced in June 2016.

The program has been expanded to include additional batteries that were shipped with the same notebook products. These batteries have the potential to overheat, posing a fire and burn hazard to customers.

Because these batteries pose a fire and burn hazard, it is essential to recheck your battery, even if you did so previously and were informed that it was not affected. However if you have already received a replacement battery, you are not affected by this expansion.

The affected models include the Note 7, Note 7, Note 7, Note 7, Note 7, Note 7, and Note 7.

    Fixed. :P

    Flame suit on…

    • I hope the pun was intended.

The HPs are notorious for running hot; sounds like they flew too close to the sun for these ones.

      • We should put them on the no-fly list like the N7s…I have a chuckle every time I fly & there's an announcement about them! :)

        • The really annoying part is I'm an Apple girl and thought I would investigate crossing into Android Territory for my work phone; hung out for 6 months waiting for this to hit the market. Then "boom" literally. The Apple Gods were obviously displeased with me.

        • @try2bhelpful: Spare a thought for poor sods like me…I just got onto Windows Phone as an OS, absolutely loved it, and then it goes the way of the dodo…

Now I'm back on Android! :'(

        • @StewBalls: I thought the Lumias were still hanging around?

Wait out until October and then come to the darkside. I'm sure we can accomodate you with the tenth anniversay iPhone.

        • @try2bhelpful: There's still a few around, but AFAIK MS is withdrawing from the market, which effectively means no future updates…and IIRC Nokia is relaunching an Android based Lumia, which puts me back at square one!

I've had a 1st Gen iPod Touch from launch, love it from an engineering perspective, but I really hate iOS & iTunes…plus I hate spending money even more! ;)

        • @StewBalls: The hardware is a bit OTT as far as price is concerned but I've soooo many freebie apps on it, and you get more of them all the time through appshopper, that it is great value for money. Also, if you have an issue with them it is often, "here is your replacement" - refurb normally but I wouldn't have an issue with that. I have an iPod that is still going strong 10 years later; not too much music technology you can say that about. Itunes is a POS, however, there are alternative programs you can run instead. I have an iPhone 6+ and an iPad mini4 at the moment; I won't be upgrading until there Apple has something new of one of the Androids rocks my boat.
