Help with GoDaddy Billing? They've Charged Me Money and Refusing to Help

Does anyone have any advice on how I'd approach this?

I got a year worth of website hosting through GoDaddy, and a week before the renewal, I transferred to a new host, and turned off my auto-renewal with GoDaddy.

However, a week later, $131.88 came out of my PayPal account for a year worth of hosting with GoDaddy (says it in the description)

PayPal can't help me, because I had it set up as a preapproved payment, so I did technically give permission for it to be taken

GoDaddy can't see any payments made against my account, don't have any of the PayPal details on file (transaction ID, billing ID, etc), so as far as they're concerned, my account has had no payment made against it. Not even asking to speak to a manager has made helped - rang them about 4 or 5 times.

What can I realistically do in this situation? I paid $131 for a product I'm not using, asked in advance to not use, and they have no indication on their system that I've given them money.

      thread over

    • It's a Paypal account so may not have been funded by a credit card. Thread not quite over yet.

It sounds to me like OP may have a secondary Godaddy account that they have perhaps overlooked and its this account that is being billed. Suggest you check back through your email records from a year ago to see if you set something up that you have have forgotten about.

Does the Paypal info show what domain it is for?

Another possibility is a compromised Paypal account?

I think Paypal may have an Aussie arm, so perhaps department of fair trading may be able to help with a disputed charge?

Would just like to confirm my dad used my PayPal for his website - you were 100% right.
        Thank you so much!!!

        • Glad you sorted it out.

Godaddy's entire sales process is geared towards giving you hidden fees and charges for things you do not need. An awful, shitty business.

Yeah, This has happend to me and I will never use godaddy again. God forbid you let a domain expire, Retrieving it back off them is one costly mistake. Was charged in the hundreds for basic hosting. But as @Diji1 says up there, They get you in with their $1 domains or free hosting but when times comes around to renewing is when they strike.

Will admit though, Their customer support is great. This helped you in no way but next time, Avoid!!
