    Good deal OP
Wouldn't touch alienware with a 20 foot barge pole though but thats just me
can do a lot better custom built

    • Why so mate, just curious… For someone not into overclocking these would be awesome as I think these take two graphics cards , but only has a 460W power supply.. keen to know the reason :)

You should be able to upgrade it yourself. In past Alienwares, the power supply is standard ATX and from the service manual it seems to be just a standard ATX power supply that is secured by a PSU chassis. It looks very easy to replace.

Also noted there are only 4 SATA ports, so you can't really throw in a lot of drives in there. From the service manual the case only provides three mount points for drives (3.5", and two 2.5" drives).

the motherboard also 'seems' to support M.2 but it might not be present on all models.

For $1600-ish it's not a terrible build, it just lacks space internally and I would usually prefer a nice big chassis that can accommodate more upgrades down the road, but this was made to be more compact.

The IO ports are all very modern — you get Superspeed USB 3.1 with Type C support (but only on the backside). Four USB3.0 ports up the front and customisable lighting… pretty nice actually. A computer case like that could set you back more than $150 dollars.

        • Thanks mate , I used to be assembling own PCs a long time ago when I was younger and had the time, nowadays any spare time goes to changing nappies for my little one..

Any meager free time goes to PS4 and have been aching to return to PC gaming similar to a console, so was interested in this.. Maybe I should just invest the time and build one one day :)

They are dodgy built these days, unless you are a tech, they will cost you in repairs, and if you are a tech, take your $1500 and build one, but it is a good price for a non-techy to enter gaming with, extend that warranty if you can though.

        • Thanks mate , I will keep that in mind , I thought Dell has made a turnaround after they went Private, hope they did

It is odd you can choose sli 1080s but not a more powerful psu in the configurator. Maybe they dont have stock or a website error? Anyway for a i7 6700 and 1060/1070 the 460watt psu will be fine. They are usually very well made FSP or Delta units with Japanese caps. There is just no room for upgrading.

        • They do have a model with 850W PSU, they come with PCs pre configured with 1070 or up I believe , good thoughts about the upgrades in future

    It's a decent deal for a 1060 Alienware

Just had a quick google on reviews of these and they rate pretty darn well!

    • I wouldn't take reviews off the internet with any weight
its an alright build but you can do much better at a proper computer store

Had the Aurora R2 and MX laptop.. both had mobo issues. Nevahhh again

    • 2 months of hell going from windows 8 -> 10 on my laptop

Broke all my drivers including the switcher for integrated v discrete graphics - from an update supposedly tested by Alienware!

  • The new Aurora with the new 7th Gen Intel chip come out soon.

Yeah, and it will cost $1500 more and have marginal to no difference in performance.

  • Did some more research and there appears to be an issue with a very noisy PSU on those fitted with the 460w. A lot of unhappy customers with the noise as it looks like Dell used an el cheapo PSU. The 850w ones are okay though.
