Most people who would download this app are already massively over hydrating themselves.
The commonly held belief that it's "essential" to drink 8 glasses has it's origins in a not very scientific report issued by the US gummints in the 1940's. The report states that most of this intake is covered by water in food so claiming that it's recommending 8 glasses a day is just flat out wrong in any case.
Since then beverage makers and what passes as news nowadays (news is something you make up to sell ads) have claimed that everyone is about to die due to dehydration because no one is drinking 8 glasses of water a day, probably because it's inconvenient to go to the toilet all the time.
As above, for most people better to let your body tell you when to drink. Possibly only useful for people on medically indicated fluid-restricted intakes
