Wii U White Basic Pack- Refurb $248 + $9 Delivery @ EB Games

170

"Missed" the last deal, as it wasnt ozb enough for me.

$248 for this console w/ the ebgames testing and policy, was deal enough for me to purchase.

Its a deal in my book as its the cheapest reputable wii-u I can find in Oz.
Take your chances with private sales and ebay… I for one think this is worth a post.

Some of those ebay sales, youd think it was a sellers market :)

Have at it.

  • I won't neg but considering the Wii U basic was released at $349 just over 4 years ago it's amazing how well it has held its price.

Then again $248 for a device that can play the complete backlog of games/roms from all Nintendo consoles isn't such a bad option I suppose… Better than the Nintendo Mini ;)

Nintendo was clearing them out about 2 years ago around $179 and plenty of retailers participated. $250 for refurbished is way over priced.

      • i got mine from target splatoon edition for 240

      • This. I paid a lot less than this for a brand new one at JB Hifi.

Unless there's a must have game to play on wii u I would just save the cash now for next gen.

There's a reason why this thing failed.

  • Need to mention it's the basic version and not the premium with extra storage.

    • +2

Even the premium being 32GB will likely mean you need to add storage anyway - at which point they are pretty much the same expect for colour.

      • considering that I'm buying it to be used with external memory ;) , i was happy with this.

    Google "WII CEMU"

    Thank me later.

    • +4

yeah - im aware of it and others, however
      a) Cemu is not intended for general use yet.
      b) Highly experimental software to emulate Wii U applications on PC
      c) Performance is better on the HW

      • im aware of it and others

What other functioning Wii U emulators are there? Hint: none.

        • was referring to the inclusive consoles which the wii-u does , wii > n64 > snes > nes etc

edit : for the pedants, not natively..

    • +1

Got any PC hardware bargains to run a couple of titles at 10fps?

    • +3

Every person that recommends emulators seems to have either not used them themselves or they're happy with buggy versions of games that don't work properly.

  • +2

    Wow, what a rip off.

  • +9

I paid $190 for this brand new three years ago

  • +6

    Seems pretty expensive.
I remember paying $180 for a brand new skylanders bundle a while ago.
I guess this is the cheapest around?

    • to my knowledge anyhow

    • Picked up the last 2 of those bundles at my local K-Mart when they hit 100. One of them weirdly enough had Mario Kart 8 installed on there, must have been a bundle mix-up, worked out for me since that was one of the few games I wanted.

I expect these to be <$149-169ish new "soon" as stores clear stock.

    • +3

      1) These are the Basic console, which Nintendo cleared out years ago.
      2) Pretty much all stores have also cleared out the Premium model.

    Don't forget to download Nintendont.

Google for a tutorial on it. It's a program you run through The Homebrew Channel (Google a tutorial on that too, probably) that you run in Wii mode that unlocks the built-in Game Cube player to play any old Game Cube ISO you throw at it.

Sure, you can get a million other emulators and shit, and that's fine and dandy, but this is the easiest way to play a wide selection of PS2 era games in "HD" (the Wii could only output at 480p, and in Wii mode the Wii U is outputting at that full capacity, but due to using HDMI and whatnot it produces a faaar cleaner image on modern sets than you'd get if you plugged a Wii in with component cables) on modern televisions. PS4 offers slightly prettier versions of select PS2 games but the catalogue is tiny and way overpriced, of course, I probably paid more than I needed to to buy a backwards compatible PS3 as well, so there.

tl;dr: Look up a tutorial to install a program named "Nintendont", it will let you play Game Cube back ups in "HD" off an SD card or HDD.

I second this. I run Nintendont on my Wii and it's absolutely brilliant. Don't forget the Gamecube titles like Super Mario Sunshine and the Rogue Squadron series (plus a whole host more). The Wii U combined with Nintendont is a great way to preserve these classics and it bolsters the Wii U library nicely.

    • Do they run the gamecube isos upscaled to HD, or uprezzed?

What a ripoff. Not that this seems to matter to rabid Nintendo fans.

  • Was lucky enough to pay 200 for a premium model and 3 games only a year after launch used like twice (ebay though).

  • I paid $350 for mine about 2 years after launch from gumtree (with about 4-5 games) and I sometimes think I overpaid. Part of the problem was a lot of the games sucked like Nintendo Land and Zombi U, and then games like New Super Mario Bros. were just underwhelming. Bayonetta was the only good game I got in the deal.

  • Heheh. I bought the Skylanders pack with Nintendo land, brand new 3 years ago for $170 at Kmart. This not only has less, and is refurbed, but it costs significantly more.

  • Nintendo stopped manufacturing new Wii U consoles late last year. Hence there are no new console packs for sale anywhere. The only consoles available would be used or refurbished. Probably the reason why they still retain a high resale value. Until the switch gets released!

    • Does anyone else think the Switch will suffer a similar fate to the Wii U, especially at a cost of over $450?
I feel that most people have enough portable game devices, and will not need something like this.

      • I'm disappointed that it isn't being bundled with any games.

What attracted me to the Wii was the Fit or the Sport Bundles. From memory it was $299. But with a game it seemed a good price.

Walked past an EB that had a trade in of a Wii U + Game and the Swtich goes down to $399! That's crazy talk.

      • I do not think the Switch will do gangbusters due to

        1. High price of device and accessories
        2. Hybrid nature giving it the worst of both worlds. Too expensive for a handheld, too weak for a console.

If you're after a dedicated console, you can buy a PS4 Slim or Xbox S cheaper than this and both are significantly more powerful.

If you're after a handheld, this is the most expensive handheld ever made.

The device only makes sense if you're someone who wants/needs both. You no longer have to buy two devices from Nintendo, although you can argue that the one device costs almost as much as two anyway.

Looking at their promo video, I cannot picture anyone taking this thing to a party, setting it on the table, giving one joycon to someone else, and the two of you sitting cramped together in front of a tiny screen, playing on tiny, uncomfortable looking controllers.

It's not strong enough a device to get AAA 3rd party games unless they are ports of last gen (PS3/360) games like Skyrim. It will basically only get Nintendo's cartoony games which look fine and more or less make the most of the hardware, and some 3rd party 'handheld' designed games. Games like SMT, Monster Hunter, and other 3DS franchises which would never have gone to home console anyway. I cannot picture a GTA, CoD, AC, Watch Dogs, Battlefield, or Battlefront releasing on this thing.

Temper your expectations. It will do better than the Wii U, but that's a low benchmark. It's their worst selling console of all time. It will not sell more than the Wii or 3DS.

Nintendo still have the mentality of having lower spec consoles and concentrating on games

yet people have no qualms forking out 550 dollars for a ps4 pro

my message for nintendo - stop making weak consoles, we want big power and we will be prepared to pay the price
