Laptop Keyboard - Some Keys Stopped Working

Hi All,

I recently purchased a new laptop for my partner for some light gaming and what not.

It's been a less than enjoyable ride so far with issues such as poor graphics performance (Latest drivers are worse than the pre-installed) and fairly frequent flash crashes when playing Facebook games (screen goes black and crashes with the latest version). Admittedly using the provided windows 10 install which I should have probably formatted to a fresh install… but anyway…

On top of the above, as of last night, a bunch of keys stopped working on the keyboard. The bottom row of z -> . as well as the left CTRL, ALT (but not the Windows or Fn Key), the number pad keys 4,5,6 and the q key.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling drivers and looked at keyboard language packs and what not but can't seem to see anything that has changed or would provide any indication of an issue.

They keyboard appears to be clean and I used a can of compressed air in an attempt to clean anything else out.

As I'm typing this I thought about trying to use the keys in the BIOS and will check that when I get home, but does anyone have any other suggestions on what could be the cause and if there is a treatment option available or should I be taking it back for a replacement?

EDIT: Keys don't work in the BIOS either (and apparently not the right arrow key ^_^).

  • What is the model number of the laptop?

Who or where did you buy from

  • +1

Keyboard probably dying and needs replacement, depending on model this is not a big or espensive job.

But if its under warranty archieve your data and return this lemon to the point of purchase.

    • Definitely under warranty, only just over 3 months old.

      • Return it, you got a lemon

        • Dropped it into MSY this morning.

          2-4 weeks without a computer…

Do I have any rights to request a refund instead as the wife has a uni work to do between now and then?
