Different thing.
When you spread jam or pour honey on top, you add sugar. Added hardened fat prevents build up of liquid peanut oil on top that leaves dry peanut paste on bottom that is close to impossible to evenly spread.
So, in the end, the criticisms don't amount to much. However, choice is always good.

Those "hardened fats" are also called by their more scientific name of "hydrogenated fats".
Hydrogenated fats in the diet are heavily linked to hardening of the arteries or heart disease, I think that amounts to a lot.

Be realistic, unless you're Elvis, fat from spreading peanut butter is unlikely to add up. On the other hand, eating less animal fat, solves both hard fat and cholesterol problems.

In case you are interested the Sanitarium Natural Peanut Butter is made from imported peanuts form Nicaragua not China.
Nicaragua Is a major producer of high quality and safe peanuts. Plus Sanitarium Natural Peanut butter is the only natural peanut butter without salt, so is 100% nuts. Some other brands do this but that version is usually on limited sale.
Sanitarium Natural Peanut Butter is my personal favourite,
