AIFFECT Mini DP to HDMI Adapter UHD/4K@30Hz
AIFFECT Mini DP to HDMI Adapter FullHD/1080p@60Hz

For those that need an adapter to convert their Mini DisplayPort/Thunderbolt port to HDMI, this is quite well priced. The 4K one is an active adapter. Not sure about the 1080p one.

The Microsoft branded ones are $64.95 RRP (passive adapter).

Apple don't make one themselves (info link) but there are third parties like Belkin who are on their store and sell their products around the $45 mark.

There are others on AliExpress or eBay that are much cheaper than the branded ones but this one seems to have a lot of positive feedback on AliExpress and it's from their official store.

There's a USD$2 (AUD$2.68) voucher if you spend more than AUD$12.05. So buy with a friend if you can and save that little bit more :)

Remember to use your CashRewards account if you have one to get another 7% back.

Alternatively, if you buy via the phone app you get $0.13 off on the UHD version and $0.06 off on the FullHD version :)

EDIT: i wrote a message to the store and asked them if there was a UHD/4K@60Hz in the work and they confirmed there is but had no timeline for when that'd arrive. I'll make do with the 30Hz one until then :) Don't need it for gaming and 30Hz is fine for connecting my laptop to my TV.

  • is this for surface pro 3

    • Yep, it'll work with any mini-display-port laptop if you choose the Active 4K version.

  • there are plenty cheaper minidp-hdmi adaptors. why is it a deal?

  • +3

I really don't understand these. An active adapter usually means it can do 4K@60hz as per the club3D adapters.
And HDMI is always able to do 4K@30hz anyway, I don't know why it would be limited to 1080p.

Also these can be found cheaper everywhere else.

    • Agreed, bought one of these from a chinese seller on ebay and they listed it at 4K@60Hz in their item description. Was pretty pissed 3 weeks later when it arrived and only did 30hz.

      • That sucks :( If you haven't already done so, maybe look into claiming a refund through eBay/PayPal since the product isn't what was advertised!

This store has a 99% rating and the feeeback on the product appears to be good and say that it is outputting @4K. Will PM you to let you when mine arrives whether it's correct if you like :)

All good, I had got the refund. It just annoyed me they were advertsing this brand at 60hz.

That's not actually correct. Active is only part of whether it can do 60Hz. The protocol is the the main reason. You need HDMI 2.0 for 60Hz. HDMI 1.4 can do 4K@30Hz but not 60Hz. But it still needs to be an active adapter in order to do so.

Up until a few months ago, it was very challenging to find adapters that had HDMI 2.0 support. This has only just started to become more common so we will start to see adapters doing 4K@60Hz more widely available for lower prices soon :)

I've not found cheaper for 4K but have seen comparable for 1080p (though at what appears to be lower quality). Feel free to post a link to help fellow OzBargainers :)

      • But it still needs to be an active adapter in order to do 4k@30Hz

I really don't think you need an active cable to output 4k@30Hz. Any adapter will do that. I'm typing on a PC right now with a passive DP to HDMI adapter that outputs just that.

  • Bought one of these generic cheap adapters from eBay for my Lenovo X230, didn't work. I don't think it was active. Is someone able to suggest one that will work?

    • Looking at the comments section and asking the store they said that the more expensive model does support 4K@30Hz. Will let you know via PM when I get mine delivered if that helps :)

      • That'd be great thanks!

  • Delivery Warning : Deliveries are taking too much time.

    • Is that the sellers fault? Or possibly China posts fault (usually the free shipping option)?

For items that I need in a couple of weeks I choose a faster postal option and have never had any problems.

      • Just mentioning that since paying for faster option doesnt make sense if you are looking for a real bargain ;)
