Try again- was lost in Limbo

      • Must be gone as it won't let me have it now.

  • I've found one, not sure I want it thou.

  • +1

clever marketing - though your website is slowing down!

  • +1

found one too but dont think i need them. thanks for the fun though… :))

    • -1

feel free to post the link.

  • +1

Hmmm only 10 packs available; the quantity seems a bit low for a front page deal.

As it's a grey area I'll have to raise it with the other mods; but in the mean time I'm happy to leave it here, with mention in the title that it's only 10 packs though, so people can have some fun hunting if they want to.

  • There are 3 shipping options to my postcode $17.70, $51.45 and free ? Can I really get this with free shipping or is that some sort of error?

    • Free

  • site is going really slow… but good fun idea so + from me

  • +1

I think I've gone over every product now. Nothing. Don't know what I'm looking for but I feel like Con the Fruiterer: "Loooking, Loooking Looooking: ;-)

    • i haven't found anything yet either…

  • Website down.

    • yup… it's down now… lolz

    • -1

      Just congested. Try again.

  • +1

site is going at a snail's pace. I also keep getting this error http://i31.tinypic.com/670cxg.jpg

    • same here…

  • …and the website is now broken!

  • How many have been found!?

  • Woohoo! I found one but am now stuck on the "review order" page… Here's to hoping it goes through.

    • Hope you have better luck than I!

  • I found a few that had already been taken, then I found 6..
Processed the order, went through to paypal and on the final confirmation it DOESN'T submit the order :(
It's just sitting there for over 5 mins now as submitting…

    • Mine did that then took me back to the website saying it was no longer in my cart or something to that effect!?

      • It just doesn't appear to be doing anything for me. Hasn't reset my cart, hasn't processed the order either.

    • I found 6 went through paypal to review order it then went to "error processing your request" page

    • That's exactly where I'm stuck.

    • Payment just came out of paypal, hopefully that means that the order did get submitted :)

    -> JungleJumble

wouldn't it be better to let people who find a pack, lock it for 15 mins so they can keep browsing, in case there's anything else they want to add?

  • I think the GE webserver overload alarm has gone off! ;-) They should post an update to say how many (if any) are left otherwise their server will be overrun for the rest of the day.

Fun's over…was long ago…I'm done…rather annoyed I've just wasted 30+ minutes for nought…Jungle Jumble I think you'll need to think through your hunt next time…as foundit has stated there should be a time limit for you to checkout…all a shame really as I had no.1 in my hot little hand…:(

  • site seems to be going again but still very slow

    EDIT: Broken again…

  • +1

I really wanted one of these but seeing as it's impossible to get the site to do anything and I need to go :( i'm going to share what I've found. Hopefully someone else will have better luck than I did.

I won't put #6 as someone else has already found it. Sorry in advance to anyone who has already found these and wanted them for themselves.

Sorry guys. Working on the issue now. I'm going to pull the promotion to prevent our server from being further strapped. To those who have posted a link or found some treasure, please email me your details, I'll confirm and send a Paypal request for the $10.

Once again, this promo has been pulled, those who found some treasure and couldn't check out, please email me.

    email [email protected].

You're going to leave yourself open to looters junglejumble!

      • -1

        -> junglejumble

do you mean, you'll make sure people are refunded the money spent on treasure hunt packs, where the payment went through but the order didn't process properly … or are you saying you'll give people a bonus $10 Paypal credit for telling you that they found a pack?

        • -2

All orders have been accounted for. No funds were erroneously taken from customers. All winning customers have now been notified.

    • Maybe you should update your first post…especially since it says, 'We'll update this as they're discovered'. >.>

    • So are the people who found, checked out and paid for orders with PayPal going to get the bag of loot?

It was good fun (and I'd love to see more of these).

  • everything is turning into a game! its too fun.

  • +1

How can I prove I found the treasure? ? i.e. I found the link, but when I click on it, the server is down…

  • +6

Well, this is one way to pressure test your server ;-))

  • I got mine…took a while through each page but got them. Thanks JJ

  • Ah well, everyone just wasted their time - it's been canceled :(

  • All the links are still there and you can add them to your cart…hmmm!?

    EDIT - Not any more!

  • Oops, just got the OP's message about pulling the deal. Anyway, the title's updated now and the site seems to be back up so I'll leave this here for JungleJumble to talk with people. (Also for people to talk about the post, if they want to)

  • I think it was a clever promotion… also a good way to do load testing on your website lol
(small herd of avid shoppers clicking through all the pages looking for free stuff… yep load test!)
thanks for the fun - I went searching just for fun! (found a couple but why spoil it for others? :)

    Jen

  • Links are still there. Just got bag o 5

All treasure now allocated. - Confirmation sent to those who won. Congrats to those who found it. Sorry to those who missed out. We'll try and be more mindful of the ozbargain effect next time we run a promo.

  • Wow was i the last one

  • Sorry but am not impressed how two were left open…I think you'll find that none of the 8 you emailed got it anyway…I think it was clear that Barginhunter and myself should have been allocated the last two as clearly we were quick off the mark to start with. Retracted my +. :(

    • i kinda agree… i ended up finding one but the check-out process didnt work. i understand there was server load issues but overall this offer was kinda poorly executed. removed my positive vote too. better luck next time jungle jumble… good idea in concept but poor execution let you down

  • I was one of the eight… just completed checkout without a problem.

    • +1

BIG EDIT - Got the last one…fair's fair in love and war!?…:S…carpe diem!

JungleJumble realise this has been a headache for all involved! :S

      • ~BREAKING NEWS~
        2 of 8 get bag-o-stuff

        • LOL Indeed! :)

  • Just received an email titled "Treasure Hunt, second chance." what does this mean when your PayPal payment went through? I also took a screen capture of the "review order" page it stuck on with all the details of my find.

What next?, was I successful will I receive the goods?, or will I be refunded my money?

    • Nice handle ;)

      I'm wondering the same thing.
I have a PayPal receipt from the original hunt (as it went though ok on an unclaimed prize), but no confirmation email yet (I didn't get any second chance email).

  • I found oneMine went thru to paypal but got stuck at paypal page then got an email saying I was 1 of only 8 for the 2 that were left, spent another 30 mins befor relising that they had allready gone…rather annoyed now, it was a crappy way of resolving what was in fact a problem with there server

  • +1

I have already sent confirmation to ALL orders that went through. To put it simply if your Paypal account was charged, you GOT ONE.

Our Paypal account shows 10 x orders for $10. 1 (correction) 2 lucky customers got 2 treasures each.

I will re-send ALL confirmations again for those who missed it the first time.

    • +1

Probably just my dodgy email being slow…

I'll only stress if I end up out of pocket and don't get anything (but PayPal is good at sorting that out anyway).

Otherwise it was a good treasure hunt and props to junglejumble for a very cool and relatively painless comp (considering the amount of bargain hunters involved ;)

    • +1

Maybe another thing for next time is to limit the number that each person can grab to 1.

Anyway congratulations to those who got the treasure :)

      • Was kinda hoping for a free for all malee. We certainly got one. It screwed our site for nearly 2 hours. Advice taken though. We won't be holding a promotion which is quite so server intensive next time.

    • My credit card got charged $10 through paypal but i havent received any confirmation just a paypal confirmation. Could you please check. I got the bag-o-5

      • Whats your postcode?

      • Just saw a connection between your name and number 5 . yes you got it.
I have sent 2 order confirmations.

        • I still havent received any emails. Can i email you my email address to see if you are seding to the same email. email sent to [email protected]

          • @rack: Is your paypal email address the same as the one you are checking?

Also, if you log onto Paypal, you can at least see if you were billed. Though it's not quite the same as getting the email straight from them.

          • @rack: Rack, you definitely got one. For some reason, your email address is being rejected.

  • rack> I did the same thing, because I haven't gotten any confirmation yet either. It just doesn't tell you anything if none of the emails are coming through yet ;)

It shouldn't be anything to worry about if there are only 10 unique PayPal transactions and junglejumble said if your Paypal account was charged, you got one.

I assume that as my PayPal address is correct, things should be ok.

  • Well as of yet I haven't received any confirmation email confirming that I'm one of the lucky one's… Although I can confirm that my PayPal account has being debited so I assume that I shall receive my treasure in due time.

My suggestion. I'm guessing most websites running these sort of promotions want to increase the profile of their site and want people to browse their products (raise awareness/increase likelihood of purchase). They do not gain by having a surge of random clikcing traffic killing their servers and preventing customers from making transactions.

So how about this: Run a competition where you ask some questions about products and people have to find the answers via the product descriptions, etc. Give them 24, 48 hours (or whatever timeframe suits). Offer the prizes to the first three, then 10th, 50th, 200th, etc entrant to spread the load (or even have a diff set of questions each day over three days, etc). Entrants email in their answers or enter it via a page (I hate having to create yet another site profile/id&password combo to enter a comp when a sites just needs my email address if they want to put me on a e-mailing list). Company announces winners as they come in/are checked.

This has to be better than a crazy online equivalent of a stocktake stampede that only disappoints many and crashes a website with little goodwill/benefit gained by the company in the process.

    • We are very new at this, and greatly appreciate your feedback. You have read our minds. This was something we discussed last week. The message we want to portray is that everything on our website is really cheap. The last promo was intended to get people to look at the other products on our web page. All it resulted in was a flurry of people scanning over the pages, ignoring everything, trying to find a link. Pointless, really. In terms of additional sales, I have to admit, the last promotion cost WAY more than any other we have done here - and resulted in little (if any) associated sales.

Basically, we gave away $700+ worth of goods for nothing.

Encouraging users to UNDERSTAND the various deals on our site is what we want to achieve.

Your idea may very well be implemented soon. Hopefully with a better, fairer result for our customers and ourselves.

    • +1

your idea is a good one but doesnt that make that a competetion which you can;t post on ozbargain. And even if you post in the forums how many of us actually go thorugh these competions. I basically visit ozbargain several times compared to the forum.

      • This technically was a competition with the winners just having the right to buy. You could provide the same offer to those in my suggestion. Just send them a relevant link or code to enter in the email confirming they're a winner.
