Crazy good price for the RX 470, just scrolling and had to post about this. If I didn't buy my 1060 3GB, I would of totally jumped on this deal.

They will be in stock on January 25, 2017.

    Why would u do that, the 1060 3gb is faster than this, had it been the rx480 thats different story

    • I paid $299 for my 1060, if I paid $229 for a 470 then thats a better value IMO.

      you are relying on old benchmark. This AMD architect will be more future proof with newer games coming with Vulkan and DX 12.

      • -3

        DirectX 12 yes, Vulkan no (everyone benefits from Vulkan) and Vulkan is looking to overtake DX12 this year alone, mostly due to Microsoft licensing fees and the fact that Vulkan is a much better API than DX12.

        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ApvTaSAG--4

        Also the idea of futureproofing with a ~$250 GPU isn't really a wise move, better off to get a 1050 now to get the same 1080p performance pretty much and upgrade later to a card that would be 60hz+ 1440p+ capable in newer games.

        • gtx 1050 is much more weaker graphic card than rx 470. i personally don't see a point in double spending on computer hardware. I rather spend once and upgrade once the computer is near obselete.

        • -2

          @ChickenAdobo:

          That's exactly my point. You're not going to future proof by getting a 470 over a 1050 now. Get a 1070 if you want to do that.

        • @c0balt:

          a rx 470 has more longevity than gtx 1050. how did you come to that conclusion? the games of the future will take more advantage of AMD GCN architect moreso than the weaker pascal found on the gtx 1050.

          And Vega is coming soon this year if you can wait. 1070 price is more on enthusiast pc gamers who need extreme performace. you wont be looking at 1070 on this budget.

          @ChickenAdobo:

          If you bought a 960 over a 950 a year ago you didn't future proof anything. The same if you got a 760 over a 750ti before that.

          But that's exactly what you are saying by getting a 470 over a 1050ti now. Of course it's a better card, it's just that neither of them will future proof.

          Regardless if you get a 1050 or 470 now you will effectively be forced to playing at the same settings, just getting a couple more FPS with the 470. Both cards are in the same tier. You are not getting an increase that justifies the word 'future proof' if by next generation a card that costs $200 preforms better than a $300 card today. In a year from now you are just stuck with an anemic card regardless if you get the 470 or 1050. Neither are future proofing.

          Either way I wouldn't buy anything now unless you really had too. Vega is looking good, but AMD have done that a lot with their last few GPUs, made them look amazing pre release then find out they pulled our leg yet again with performance to watt metric and also overall performance being significantly lower than speculated. Ryzen on the other hand gets me hard, like it's pretty much all but confirmed it's going to be the bees knees and the whole keeping the same socket/chipset till 2020 on the new motherboards is something that's great for the consumer.

        • @c0balt:

          You're still not getting it… You can't use Nvidia's architecture to make longevity comparisons, they are designed to last 2yr max… Meanwhile the 7970 which was losing to a 680 at launch is closing in on 780 performance now… There's just so much more untapped performance in AMD's cards that will get realised through drivers and evolution of games that it puts them in a much better position in the future (I wouldn't be supprised seeing a 470 at 1060 6gb performance once DX12/Vulkan becomes the norm).

          @AreYouAWiiizard:

          I don't get it? Nah.. I'm sorry for understanding what future proofing actually mean.

          Enjoy your low-mid range rx470 when the next load of actual future games comes out and you're stuck running medium settings on 1080p with average FPS again.

          1060 is effectively equal in direct x 12/Vulkan with the 1060 being better DX12 in some games and the 480 better in others, but a huge advantage in Direct X 11 (which is what people will be playing 90% of the titles with TODAY).
          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=23EpAY46PxI

          How on earth will the 470 beat the 1060 in Vulkan when the 480 can't best the 1060 in Vulkan? You seemed so sure of it in your post too, but all the actual metrics show that the 1060 is better. Theory vs practice? Maybe your glasses are tinted a little too red.

          If you were right about how AMD cards get better with age then why isn't the R9 290 performing any better? It's 2 generations old now but it's still performing at less than a 970, there's been no driver boost to that very popular card. Your example makes it sound like every single card AMD releases will see a performance boost over time. They won't because AMD has caught up to releasing the best drivers possible than cripple a card on launch by giving it drivers that can't compete with the competition. It was AMD fixing a mistake through driver optimisations, not releasing previously unknown potential. You can't download more RAM lol!

          I see I offended the AMD brigade though, so that I actually understand. I'm more focused on what the actual performance is and the best use of money, and that's why I suggest getting a 1050ti over a 470 if you had to buy today.

        • @c0balt: Wow, you really don't care to show how stupid you are… Firstly I talk about how AMD gains performance over time and you go link a video using launch drivers! Well now you know what it was like at launch, how about you see what the performance is like now: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Jml0uItdnE

          Performance is practically even now and if you watch at 8:29 you will see the 470 already beating the 1060 6GB in Vulkan. His testing is weird and without anti-aliasing too so with post-processing would slightly drop Nvidia cards performance more than AMD's. Basically any review after the Re-Live drivers should have the 470 ahead of the 1060 6GB in Doom at 1080p.
          So in only 6 months AMD has caught up from a "huge advantage". A 290 should be performing much better than a 970 with current drivers although if they are using the awful reference model I doubt it, plus some sites tend to use factory OC'd 970s which are well above reference for reviews anyways.

          About the 1050Ti over 470, you have clearly lost it…
