NBN Carrier

What is the most optimal NBN carrier?
Preferrably one that has minimal disconnect time, and does not slow down or congest during peak hours. Cheap is of course a benefit.

Will be living in the North Brisbane (North Lakes, Mango Hill) area. So any advice about the NBN experiences from people around this area would be extremely useful.
I've seen in some forum posts that people have advised changing the modem, and getting one from the carrier. However, the townhouse is approximately 1 year old. Will it still be beneficial to get a new router in a house this new?

Best to find your suburb or area in one of these Whirlpool forums https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/forum/142, and there post a similar question will receive more advice and your questions will most likely already be answered.

    • Thanks! I'll go have a look now

The best one I have experienced so far is Skymesh.

I have been with Devoted (they got taken over by Nuskope). Nothing wrong with NuSkope, except that they didn't really care for people that were previously on the old plans and started raising the prices, going from 66.96 a month to 79.95 a month, for the same level of service. Discussions on Whirlpool were mixed, but I saw no perceptible increase in value for me, as a customer. So i left.

before I got NBN I was with TPG. You sort of get what you pay for with lower-end telco's — poorer service standards and longer turn-around time. And for people on NBN that also means poorer contention ratios.

Skymesh OTOH are cool — they even price matched a budget and low-cost telecomms rival which were advertising a cutthroat plan (Teleron 500GB @ $55 a month) and were cool enough to delay the activation of my service until past Jan 3rd, and actually activated as per my instructions. I've got nothing but praise to their service.

If you want the best service and speeds during peak periods, go with Skymesh.

If you only care about having the cheapest bill per month, with no download limits and you don't care about the speeds or ping or lag during online games, you could try MyRepublic.

    • Yeah ive actually seen that as well. Just wasnt sure if Skymesh has good coverage in my area or not

    • They sound great from what youre saying! I'll give them a call tomorrow and see what they say.

    • I've been with Skymesh for over a year and couldn't recommend them more. Awesome connection and customer service.

    • Nice to see they did end up price matching the telron price.

Stay away from myrepublic. I'm on their ADSL plan because there's no NBN, and their service is pathetic. Speed fluctuates during the day and drops out a lot at night. The dynamic IP address shows that I'm overseas 90% of the time. Apparently you need the gamer plans to get a static IP address, otherwise it'll cost you an extra $10/month

    • Thanks for the mate. Was actually considering betweenm myrepublic and Skymesh. I'll definitely stay away from myrepublic then!

      • I just got off the phone with their crappy customer service rep who told me the speed fluctuations were normal, and when pressed about the sub 1mbit/s speeds at night he said it was normal! Off peak times too! I have exactly 362 days left with this mob.

Put in a complaint to the TIO, for an early exit of contract if they are not providing you with a service that is up to standards

  • Always been on TPG, got appalling speeds for ADSL2+, so I jumped on NBN when it was available. Opted for the 25/5 speed, and when I do a speedtest over Wifi, get around 22, 23 consistently, at various times of day/night. Would recommend (although have no experience with their 100/40)

You're lucky then, some poor souls with My Republic are getting ADSL speeds on Fiber and are locked in 12 month contracts

      • wow, i just looked them up. Prices are so cheap, not surprised that they cannot deliver. I would have probably jumped onto them too if I came across them earlier. Im paying $70 p/m for 25mpbs but no issues yet
