Wait, so we're paying $888 for $860 worth of stuff?

    • Total Wines valued @ $860, that excludes the Wine Fridge

      • yep I reckon its good value considering how much people spend on wine fridges.

If you stack the discounted gift cards and cashrewards savings, it's another $106.56 off the price :)

    • No. You're paying $888 for $860 of wine and $28 for a wine fridge to put them in.

    • $860 worth of wine exclusive of the wine fridge….

    • Right, post is edited. Much clearer now

  • Did a quick search on the Fridge and they require a lot of ventilation, seems to die in relatively short lifespan but then again, <$30 bucks for a wine fridge - worth it.

    • +2

If you get the discounted gift card savings/CR cashback then the wine fridge is practically free. All the wines are good quality too, bin 128 would be my pick. Was hoping there would be some bin 389 in there too…

  • Has anyone done the sums on running cost, efficiency etc, to determine whether a wine fridge is economically better than just buying wine that has been stored by the bottle shop close to the time of drinking?

I suspect it may just be better value to buy the wines you would like to drink close to the time. And you don't run the risk of poor storage resulting in your wine going bad. I.e. if your wine is bad you can return it.

    • Chances are if it is a good vintage, the bottle shop will charge a hefty premium in years to come. Wine fridges of this size use an average of 20kw a year.

And you don't run the risk of poor storage resulting in your wine going bad. I.e. if your wine is bad you can return it.

Good point, generally bad wines are in the lower price ranges, 2015/2016 vintages and say on the bottle/website don't age for long.

      • 20kwh per year of energy usage seems way lower than a lot of reviews are suggesting. How did you get that figure?

I've done some more googling and found the "old" choice report.

Choice are saying about 10 times that: 300kwh per year. See: http://www.homeicon.com.au/images/media/Wine_Fridges_reviewe…

So a running cost of about $60 per year.

Assuming you run it for 10 years and fill it with 30 bottles at the start then you will need each wine to appreciate by on average $20.

This doesn't take into account the opportunity cost of the space the fridge will occupy nor the up front cost of the fridge.

I think your calcs are missing the subjective opinion about having the convenience of having wines at your disposal rather than having to go out to buy bottles every time you need them.

The fridge also makes a nice 'furniture piece' (if you can call it that).

Somehow I don't think this fridge will actually last 10 years though… it IS a reputable brand… but I'm not really sure things are built up to the same standards as the old days.

Last time I looked at Choice reviews for wine fridges (a few years ago), they basically concluded that all of them have much higher temperature variation than desirable for wine storage. Combined with the initial purchase price, running costs, the seeming inability of wine to remain un-drunk in my house for extended periods and the fact that I live less than 100m from Vintage Cellars, I decided to just let VC store the wine for me.

      • +1

I've had this fridge for a bit less than a year. My fridge is set at 13 degrees, and I have a separate thermometer in the fridge which I normally check whenever I go into the fridge, and generally find a fluctuation of around 1.5 degrees, typically between 12.6 degrees to 14.1 degrees, which isn't too bad. I had a look at that choice review as well when I was buying my fridge. From memory only the Liebherr fridges had excellent fluctuation scores.

  • Mum looooooooooves the penfolds bin range. Shame she's already got a wine fridge and those wines

    • +1

There's always room for more in the 2nd wine fridge ;)

    • Put your mum in the fridge!

  • Anyone know of any offers/sales on larger wine fridges? The wine that comes with this offer alone will fill this wine fridge.

    • +4

I second this, I'd like to store more than a weeks worth.

  • +1

And get an extra bottle with this offer? (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/288144)

    • Yep that combines!

      • I guess the question is, can we have two promotion codes? (SALE and SPEND)?

        • What's SPEND?

        • +1

@Spackbace: O, just tested. You need to put in the voucher code SPEND to get that bonus wine. But you don't actually need to put in voucher code SALE to claim this deal.

        • @Maki:

Whoops, that was my fault, put the wrong coupon code on the post for some stupid reason :/

  • Is there an issue with putting this in a small wine cellar? I have a small (2x2) cellar with approx 120 wines. Could having the fridge in there as well cause temperature fluctuations or elevate the temp of such a small room? My intention would be to store whites at a lower temp in the fridge and keep the reds "outside".

    • This fridge isn't designed to be built into small spaces (particularly under benchtops) as the warranty specifically mentions this.

I imagine it'd generate too much heat if you store it in such a small space.

I bought this from last year's deal (exactly the same offer) and I believe the 'fridge' is designed to keep reds in it so you should be putting the reds in there, though it sounds like you'll need to get several of these to store your existing collection!

Holds 30 bottles, I receive only 28 bottles,
I can't buy this for OCD reasons..

  • Good little fridge, I've had mine for over 5 years now, pretty happy with it though I'm not a wine buff. Had to replace the relay switch couple of years back, bought the part from Vintec and paid a fridge repairer $70 to come out and fix it.

  • ordered thanks!!
was going to pick up the wines, but the freebie bottle cant be picked up at any store,

so I had the entire thing delivered for free..

    oh well

  • $888 and Penfolds (red) - just in time for Chinese New Year ;) Around same time last year: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/232380

  • +1

and another BONUS that ive just found to make this deal better is that
in cashrewards this purchase tracks at teh full price!!!
so goes from $40 odd to $84 odd!

Might have to get another one!

  • For whatever reason when I add the SPEND code it shows in the cart, it confirms Step 1 of 2 my address and delivery method and the "Château Raymond-Lafon" is in my cart. However when I hit Payment to get to the next page it is removed. Can anyone else who has ordered confirm?

EDIT: I tried another browser and also not logging into my DM account, get the following message at the same point.
"Sorry, there has been a problem processing your payment - We're sorry but multiple offers, promotions or promotional vouchers can't be used in conjunction with each other. The most beneficial offer, promotion or promotional voucher has been applied to your order."

EDIT2: I used IE and even though I got the above message, I continued to enter in the gift cards and managed to pay and get the order confirmation with the SPEND code applied. Strange how Chrome automatically removed it.

My Godfather…. I am pissing myself laughing…..Thanks Guys. Keep it up. You are the "unsung heroes" of Ozbargain and keep me sane..

  • We bought a half size version of this about 15 years ago, 240 bottles. I didn't pay anywhere near this price for it.

    http://www.kitchenerwinecabinets.com.au/product.asp?ID=16

This is indeed the world's ugliest fridge so it lives in the garage.

We bought a wine fridge when it was 40 degrees outside and 30 degrees where we were storing our wine. The convenience of a wine fridge is you can buy wines, on special, by the dozen and store them for later consumption. We regularly pull 10 year old wines from this fridge and they are drinking very nicely. The convenience factor is enormous, just toddle out to the garage and make a selection. I am off to a barrel sale for a winery this weekend so I will be able to stock up on a couple of dozen and drink them over the year without the worry of "cooking" them.

    • Prices seem ok but the reported lack of support for their products is dissappointing:
      http://www.productreview.com.au/p/kitchener-wine-cabinets.ht…

      • Yeah, however, I noticed that but they weren't talking about the Peltier version; that one doesn't have a compressor. I experienced a similar problem to them with my Leibherr refrigerator when it broke down - the people we bought it off couldn't find us someone to repair it so we had to junk it. Well outside warranty but disappointing as it fit the slot in our kitchen nicely. If people were interested in Kitchener stuff I would be asking some really hard questions about support and mention the ProductReview site feedback.

  • anyone want to buy my winefridge? I dont need it, bought more than 1

    • You know the rules you have to mention a price and a suburb in the comment :)

    • How much and where? I'm interested.

  • I got one of these as part of this deal, my little brother bought one as well. I ended up loaning it to my nephew as I bought a full size wine fridge. As far as I know both are still working.

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/23122

  • Can anyone confirm end price? With 10% cash rewards til midnight tonight, 5% gift vouchers and $10 amex. Im getting $707.30.

  • It looks like the offer has expired. Does anyone know if this is likely to come around again? After a couple of weeks of nudging, I finally managed to convince my wife to let me get one only to find out it wasn't on any more.

    • Next year for CNY.
