Xiaomi Mi Notebook Air - Alternatives?

Hey all, I'm looking to replace my old HP Laptop with something a bit more zippy.

I'm about 80% set on a Xiaomi Mi Notebook Air from Gearbest Which I can get for $994.
I like how it looks and the fact that it's got 8GB RAM, i5 CPU, SSD and IPS Screen - all for under $1000
I'm after something thin/small/portable (But not too small)
I need it to be zippy and responsive as I often have 10+ Chrome tabs open or Watch Youtube on it.

Downsides of Xiaomi Mi Air:
* Limited warranty. Would be hard to get repaired if it had manufacturing faults.
* No native AU Power Charger. I would need to source an aftermarket AU USB-C Power-Charger (~$50).

My question is:
Can I get an alternate laptop with similar specs/Thin Size/Lightweight for less than $900 (If money was no issue, i'd get a Razor Blade Stealth). Am I crazy for wanting a Xiaomi Mi Air?

The Xiaomi is a great notebook man. You're not crazy for considering it. Honestly if I was in the market for something like that at the moment it would be one of the first things I'd look at. Also GearBest have their own warranty policy so there'd be no need to deal with Xiaomi directly if that helps.

  • I am hoping that Tightarse can get us a repeat of the Lenovo T460S for $1000. Great laptop at that price..

      You are right - T460S was/is a crazy deal
It is slightly larger but has long battery life - comparable I believe - more power and excellent build quality
Comparing a Lenovo to a Xiaomi is crazy - get the Thinkpad!

      • Fingers crossed we see it repeated. Have not seen any laptop better than this for 1k.. the extra $$ for the XPS13 is hard to justify, and to be honest the slightly bigger screen and better keyboard of T460S would probably be better anyway.

        • As someone who owned Xps13 and Xiaomi air 13, the XPS doesn't feel as premium as Xiaomi. The screen is beautiful on xps, but I much prefer the macbook like keyboard and touchpad of Xiaomi. If it weren't for the glossy screen, I wouldn't have any issue with Xiaomi.

  • The Lenovo Thinkpad 13 is the poor man's T series, not as sturdy but it's packing enough battery capacity for at least 8 hours of use.

The price though, Mr Tight Arse needs to do something about to make it worthwhile. $900 for the most high end version… Hint hint?

  • Wondering what happened. Di u end up buying xiaomi notebook?

    • No, brought a Used Dell E7440 for $400 on ebay. i7, 8GB RAM etc…

      • Worth.

      • I am in almost the same situation I want something light asf and powerful I am not really fussy about touch-screen as I have been taking uni notes on paper for 2.5 years so I will do just fine for 2.5 more.

The interesting thing right now is that laptop is available for $660. And I do have couple type c phone chargers at home so that shouldn't be a problem. What would you suggest now

        • 660USD. 890AUD. After selling my macbook pro and using an ipad for college, I've been looking for a laptop for around 1000 aud with good battery/spec and the conclusion i ended up with is that if u want a good laptop, windows or mac, u need to spend more than 1500.

Even xiaomi laptops seem like a good deal but after reading reviews, there are issues.

        • @EnterTheShiftKey: just wait for another T series deal. Things are great for uni, and TA have brought it to as low as 1.1k

And you won't really be facing much issue with the Xiaomi laptop in uni. Unless you guys have outdoor tutorials.
