  • I'm looking to get into 3D printing, could you give any recommendations for a solid 3D printer that uses 3.0mm ABS filament OP?

I've got no idea when it comes to bargains for 3D printers.

    • ..but you are sure these prices are a deal?

      • What do you mean?
I was able to get some 1kg spools for $4 delivered just now.

I'm looking for a deal to buy a 3D printer now.

        • With 3mm filament?
Most printers use 1.75 I believe

    • +1

Printers that use 1.75mm filament are much more common than those that use 3mm filament. Is there any particular reason you need to use 3mm filament? While we're on the subject, is there any particular reason you need to use ABS as well?

I've never used 3mm filament, but I've heard good things about the LulzBot printers. They use 3mm filament, not sure how well they printer ABS though. Generally you want an enclosed printer for ABS, as it warps easily if it doesn't cool uniformly.

      • I guess I'm just used to ABS as I've done a few printing jobs at Melbourne Uni using their small, cheapy UP! 3D printers that use ABS. (Have also experienced this warping).

Could you give a rough starting point for an enclosed, ABS 3mm printer and what are some of the good names to look for?

        • +1

You didn't really answer why it had to be 3mm. 1.75mm filament is much more common, and many more printers use 1.75mm filament. PLA is a much more starter-friendly filament as well, I personally wouldn't aim for ABS printing unless you had a specific need for ABS. Even then, PETG is starting to gain popularity as an ABS substitute.

If you're absolutely set on 3mm ABS, I would check out LulzBots or Ultimakers. Both can get pretty expensive though. I don't really know of any other 3mm printers, sorry! Never used 3mm and don't really plan on it so haven't kept up with them.
