Where to Buy and Sell Cars??

Planning on selling my car and buying a new one.

Where to start??

I've been looking on carsales. What other options are available?

  • Auctions can be good

  • Trading post is also good…. the prices on carsales tend to be a tad unrealistic….

    • Ignore the asking price… if it is good and what you want just offer a price you would be happy with and if they want to haggle for more leave it. There is always another good buy around the next corner.
Beware… In Sydney expecially there are a LOT of low k repaired write offs on offer. Get a RTA report, worth every cent.

Try this site. http://www.thecarbroker.com.au They brokered me a great price on new Honda Jazz which I doubt I had any chance of getting myself (and I tried) I believe they may be able to help with trade in.

For best price and best responses and selling secondhand car directly I would definitely use www.carsales.com.au and not waste your tiome and money on others. IMHO

    • I bought from Carsales and sold on Trading Post…

I put up my Trading Post ad online only at the end of the day at work… 10 minutes later on the drive home, I had my first call!!
And I had 2 others call that night.

    • I intend to try a broker with my next purchase. I would do anything to avoid car sales wankers… aaaggghhh!!! :-(

      • im offended xD

anyways…i would always make sure i can meet up with the seller and give it a test drive…

so many scams from nigeria these days @@

  • I've found that a lot of the sellers advertise across a lot of the online platforms. I recently bought a motorbike of bikesales.com, but it was also being advertised on bikepoint.com, trading post and ebay.

HAVE AN IDEA OF WHAT A VEHICLE IS WORTH! The amount of 'buyers' who offer a STUPIDLY low amount of money for my car built in 1986 is unbelievable, they don't understand why I tell them to 'F**K OFF'. Because apparently an old car has to be cheap…keep in mind, it presents like a four year old car. Damn rare too!

Sorry, rant, but yeah, get an idea of what money something is worth before you find someone like me smacking your head in for offering chicken feed.

If you want transport, look for a Hyundai Getz manual 1.6l, seen a 2007 model Getz with 40,000 on the clock for $7k the other day!

    • The true worth of a car or any object at all is what a buyer is willing to pay for it.

      • Urrrrt, I understand market forces, but just because someone offers $4k for a car worth about $8k on the market doesn't make it immediately $4k. Hell, I've had 20 people offer $4k and one ENTHUSIAST offer $8k. Just got to wait for the right buyer, not that it's for sale.

  • Beware… there are heaps of repaired write offs being sold… They look immaculate and are usually very low milage. You can get a vehicle history from the RTA for a fee, it's worth every cent!
(oops, i already wrote this above… cant hurt as its good advice, sorry.)
