  • does this fridge have digital inverter technology?

  • +2

I have a 25 yr old Whirlpool fridge. I'm pretty sure it ain't making much of a dint in my power bill. Digital inverter technology for a fridge doesn't mean a damn when you are all running aircon in brick sh.tboxes.

    • Ur luky its lastedw that long. Whirlpool's are the crappiest fridges. Bought one 7 years ago and the fridge part died. No airflow. Control board frozen over and needs replacing after 3 months. Fixed under warranty. fast forward 7 years, happened again and quoted at $400 to replace. Got rid of it and bought a brand new Samsung. Never buy a Whirlpool again.

      • Please tell us another joke. Think that Samsung is any better? Probably wouldn't last half as long. Might even explode

        • Last time I checked, fridges don't have Batteries in them. Gimp.

        • @Gavman: neither did Samsung washing machines. Smart Alec

    • +1

DIT is not just about efficiency. Its also a lot quieter and less wear and tear on motor means it will probably last longer than other types of fridges

  • Did you hear about the rabbit that lived in a refrigerator?

    • +1

      It was a Westinghouse.

  • I'm not really a bottom mounter myself….
…… prefer the conventional configuration ;)

      Noted

  • So if you order online don't get the voucher? And it ends tonight?

    • You will get the voucher still. Good Guys may put the price up, but voucher is valid for purchases until 19 Jan. If Good Guys put their price up, and Harvey norman stay at $795, you can price match or use the 120% price guarantee. Although it's possible they will both put their prices up.

      • They both follow each other like clockwork. They will always have same prices or be $1 out even on specials.

Just remember with both TGG and HN to factor in $70 or more for delivery etc. which is so annoying. I'd rather purchase form appliances online that don't charge any extra for delivery.

  • If you read the online catalog it says the offer ends on 19th Jan rather than 15th.

  • Hmm…this one or Samsung SR400LSTC 400L Top Mount Fridge. I prefer Westinghouse bottom mount than Samsung's top mount. But Samsung has the digital inverter technology, don't know if it's worth it. Any reliability issue with Westinghouse because I never own one.

    • Samsung hands down

    • Neither, Samsung are dud fridges.

Mine's broken down 4 times in last 5 years, repairer had nothing nice to say about them.

On the lookout currently and passed on both of these deals.

      • just cos u got a dud fridge doesn't mean the brand is bad. Ud be hard pressed to find a brand that someone didn't get a lemon. Pick one.. then google it.. Pretty sure ull find the same horror story in one forum or another.

        • Fair point, but my opinion is largely deferring to the local repairer's knowledge.

He does warranty repairs for most major brands and told us straight out not to buy another Samsung fridge. Each to their own, just throwing it out there.

Hope you get lucky if you committed Gav!

        • @mcnugget: I understand where ur coming from but wouldn't he love brands that break more often as it would drive most his business. Also newer fridges have different type of motors so u can't really compare older models like urs and newer models with DIT motors.

        • @Gavman:
Considering you seem to have a similar view on Whirlpool surprised to see these comments.

As I said, hope you're a lucky Samsung owner and the 'new' technology makes a difference.

For what it's worth the latest Choice review (December 2016) of fridges had this Westinghouse (WBE4500WA) as a recommended buy that was placed 3rd of the 40 fridges they reviewed - behind the LG GB-450UPLX and the Fisher and Paykel RF610ADUSX5.

Choice only recommended 5 of the 40 fridges tested - the 2 others recommended were the LG GB-310NWL and the Fisher and Paykel E442BRE5. The Westinghouse and Fisher and Paykels are made in Thailand whereas the LGs are made in China. (The last Australian made fridge rolled of the Electrolux assembly line in Orange in April 2016.)

The good points listed for the Westinghouse were:
    • Excellent response to seasonal change
    • Excellent range of temperatures available
    • Humidity control on crisper

    The bad points were:
    • No chiller
    • No alarm on freezer door
    • Door can be a little warm.
    • Slightly limited number of actual settings.

  • I bought this fridge last year but had to return it as it was making a lot of noise. The replacement was an LG and so far I am very happy with it.

    • With the benefits of digital inverter technology not sure why (perhaps price) anyone would get any other type of fridge. LG and Samsung are good choices
