Melbourne Return Hong Kong/Philippines/China/India/Sri Lanka from $491 Return (See Post) with AirAsia/Philippine Airlines @ IWTF

480

So I was bored and dreaming of travelling this morning - found some really cheap fares Melbourne return - Asia/Subcontinent from IWTF.

These are dates that shoulder the Melbourne Cup Weekend (7th November) and also Victorian School Holidays (23rd September - 8th October) so hopefully people can take advantage.

All flights are Per person Return from Melbourne, Tullamarine (VIC) but may be other cities too.

MEL-HKG $492 http://imgur.com/a/mRTed Oct 1 - Nov 1 17' (AirAsia)
MEL-Colombo $560 http://imgur.com/a/UY86V September 17' School Holidays (AirAsia)
MEL-Chennai $542 http://imgur.com/a/UY86V September 17' School Holidays (AirAsia)
MEL-Manila $552 http://imgur.com/a/NPTOC September 17' School Holidays (Philippine Airlines)
MEL-Shanghai $491 http://imgur.com/a/nIQl3 September 17' School Holidays (AirAsia)
MEL-Beijing $491 http://imgur.com/a/H3dkp September 17' School Holidays (AirAsia)

Yes, a lot of these are not direct flights and flying with Air Asia, but are a substantially cheaper option.

Link to Melbourne - Beijing here

Remember if you prefer a bricks and mortar retailer, all you need are screen shots of the Flight Number and final cost and Flight Centre will price beat by $1 http://www.flightcentre.com.au/lowest-airfare-guarantee - I did this last year with a return flight to HK with Cathay Pacific with no issue.

Hope this helps someone!

  • What's the best time of year to go to Phillipines?

    • +4

      Anytime.

It can be wet leading up to Christmas and that is also when you get most typhoons.

Sitting in Manila typing this - beer is cold, women are warm.

      • How about the men?

I have no interest so can't comment with any authority.

There are a lot of gays/ladyboys here - it is far more common and open than in Australia.

Filipinos are typically friendly people who have a relaxed approach to life - I am sure you can find a loving Filipino partner of any persuasion you want.

          STDs?

      • Give my regards to the local Hitler.

        • -1

Hardly. Duterte's the best thing that's happened to the Philippines in a long time. Just ask an actual Filipino.

        • @Ryballs: Thanks for proving my point. That's the way the germans thought about Hitler.

        • +6

@Martijn: Just because Filipinos have faith in their leader doesn't make him Hitler. There's a reason why 16 million of them voted for him. They aren't stupid. He's the first Filipino president to have the balls to stand up against corruption in 30 years. He's exactly what the Philippines needs and the Filipino people know it. Better than you or the western media.

There are a lot of corrupt Filipino government officials in the Philippines. The drug trade has it's hand in everything. Police work for the drug lords and they can't be relied upon. It's actually easier to get an illegal firearm there than a legal one! Provinces are often ruled by dynasties who openly advertise in the street that they will buy your vote. Corrupt politicians take so much money from government projects that they are often unable to be completed due to lack of funds.

But the police no longer openly take bribes now. If you want your drivers license you actually have to sit your driving test. Overall crime is down. But most importantly corrupt politicians and drug lords are being made to answer for the decades of pain and suffering they've caused the Filipino people. Because of Duterte their iron grip over the Philippines is finally being threatened and I say about bloody time.

And what people in the West don't realise is the culture of corruption in 3rd world countries. It's not enough that your president is not corrupt. He needs to have an iron hand to not just stop but change the culture of corruption that is widespread all over the country.

Do Filipinos like Duterte's foul mouth? No they don't. Do they like their country to be BFF with the US? Yes they do. But why is it that in spite of this and also in spite of all the negative press in the West, his approval ratings among Filipinos is still a sky high 81% with only 9% disapproved? Maybe it's because after decades of being oppressed and preyed upon, they finally have someone who cares for them not just in words but especially in action.

Got nothing to do with the Filipinos. It's his OWN assessment.

          they finally have someone

Wow… standards must be extremely low if you're happy with a murderer.

@Martijn: I admit he does say some stupid things. He's not used to being in the spotlight and just says whatever he wants without thinking about the consequences. It doesn't help that a lot of what is quoted is tongue-in-cheek 'Engrish' or poorly translated Tagalog but Western media makes it out to be 100% literal.

Anyway what matters most is that he loves his country and is willing to do everything he can to fix its decades of self-destruction. Unlike previous presidents who were part of the problem, he's actually trying to clean up the corruption and so far it seems to be working.

I'd encourage you and others like you to talk to an actual Filipino and find out what's really happening there instead of just passing judgement based on what you hear in the news. Even better take this flight and go live there for a while. I'm sure it'll be a real eye-opener..

I do. Several colleagues and 2 close friends.

Sorry… but did you see the video? it was Duterte saying this. No translator involved.

he loves his country and is willing to do everything he can to fix its decades of self-destruction

Saying you want to slaughter 3 million peolpe isn't fixing a problem. It's creating 3 million new ones.

I wish you a life full of boring mornings. Amen.

And may OP also dream of cheap electronics too.

Nice find. It's cheap if you are happy with carry on, but buying checked luggage allowance will bring the price closer to a full service airline.

    Congrats!

  • any deals SYD —> MNL?

    • +2

Cebu Pacific generally runs at $199 each way direct.

  • +1

The MEL-MNL screenshot is via AirAsia and not PAL? so is the price not for PAL then? Couldnt find this price via PAL…

Great price to get to Colombo, which is the cheapest place to get a business flight to Europe from Asia. Couldn't afford one from AUS so found a $1500 return from Colombo to London on Qatar, so with this price you've got a (mostly) business flight to London for under 2k if you can find a similar priced Qatar flight

    • Just curious, what's the layover duration in Colombo airport like? I wasn't impressed by it.

  • I'd be waiting until the ATSB release the half dozen odd current open Safety Investigations before I flew this mob.

    • Perhaps, but when there's nothing damning in it, watch the prices go up! No doubt this sale pricing reflects the poor image of Air Asia.
