I got it for free with the Samsung product recall fiasco

    • Is it any good?

      • -3

It's good, but it needs to be stored inside a fire enclosure.

        • Not this model

          @biggestta:

This has the official Samsung plastic bag and gaffa tape fix?

        we've got the previous model.
It gets a daily workout for the past 4yrs & has worked fine.

About my only criticism is that auto water level is a little low (I believe that's universal to make them seem water saving/greener) so I just set it manually.

But coming from a front loader, it so much better if you want to wash large things (a doona or sheets, pillow cases, etc in one load) and of course finding the inevitable missing sock or pair of undies just after you've started, just pop the lid & add it in.

      Pointless & confusing comment.
Different manufacturer - this is Fisher & Paykel, not Samsung😯

      • Sorry to confuse you. Got my money back from Samsung recall and purchased this model. Did not cost me a cent. It is a good unit

  • Appliancesonline had it for $756 last week with free delivery. If you message them might still do it. YMMV.

    • This deal is appliances online ebay store, they increased the price, went through ebay to get the $20 discount. Still a pretty good price though.

Downvoted because I had the old version of this washer and it died 3 months outside of warranty. Very lightweight design not built to last. Made in China I believe.

    • Really? F&P now made in China?

      • +1

In 2012, Haier, a major Chinese white goods manufacturer, purchased over 90% of Fisher & Paykel Appliance shares. (Wikipedia)

    • 3 months outside warranty would be pretty easy to claim ACL. If you didn't well then you need to learn

As a manufacturer, F&P have based it's reputation on innovation.

Unfortunately for it's reputation in the repair trade, that meant it often did not improve on previous models but made major unproven jumps in appliance technology. Domestic appliances need to be dependable. Getting clothes clean does not really require innovation.

My parents bought a F&P toploader of similar design a few years back - a complete lemon. F&P sent out techs but gave up & refused to do anything about it. The warranty was useless as my Father wouldn't take action against F&P.

Main problem was it failed to rinse the dirt out of the wash - just redistributing it. (That was also found in tests at the time by Choice.) Clean clothes came out dirty. F&P just told my Father not to use the water saving settings - the feature he had bought the model for & it still didn't rinse adequately.

Choice has a (paid) review of this model. It reports this is a discontinued model.

    • You'll find that the WA8060P1 was discontinued not this model.
