What's The Best Tripod under $100?

I've been looking around for a tripod but the options vary so much, from something as cheap as this https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/284719 to more expensive items like this https://www.jbhifi.com.au/cameras/camera-accessories/manfrot…. Does anyone have any recommendations for tripods and who to go for? I'll be using a nikon d3400 dslr on the tripod so it's not super heavy. I'll mainly be using it for sunsets/sunrise and landscape photography

  • This is an excellent tripod for the money but if you're looking for tips on what is good and bad about it - you'll see there is no quick release plate so you'll have to hand screw the camera on and off. Perfectly achievable but spending the extra 30 dollars on the next one up gives you the pistol grip adjustment and built in quick release plate.

If you're only going to use the tripod occasionally - get the cheap one - but if you're going to use it fairly often - spend the extra.

    Cheaper at Teds:

    • Thanks for the help mate, know if this one is any good?

Also the ones around $50 seem good for what I need have any recommendations?

      • They're built for a purpose - standing on rocks - great for exactly that and nothing more - won't hold a full size camera and lens in a stiff breeze though.

Let's say you spent $1000 on your camera and lens. Would you trust a $50 gadget to hold it still?

I'm trying not to be overly critical - they do one job very well - but only that one job.

If you want portability great - but otherwise it'll sit in the pocket of your camera bag for years looking good but not being good for much else.

        • Ahhhhh ok makes sense, what's the teds shipping like? Got to love wa

        • @Lockster:

Oh you poor guy. Sorry - I live on the Gold Coast - never have to use it

9.95 flat rate on the site though so might be an OZB for you :)

        • @eglathangion: Free shipping for club members, ozb bargain for me thanks mate might get this one. $30 more than I wanted to spend but it's for a better a product so why wouldn't I?

      • I have used the gorillapod. It works well for those few time when you wanted to take a selfie with you dslr.
The advantage is that you can fix them on most places and they are stable than most other sub $100 tripods. Also easy to carry while traveling.
The disadvantage is that if you are fix it to a pole/picnic table/ railings etc and you might not have a clear view of the focus area and does not have height adjustment. if you think height adjustment is a deal breaker then dont go for it
