URGENT! Those Affected by Tiger Flight Cancellations (Bali)

Just in case someone is stuck in Bali and they checked OzBargain for whatever reason:

If you booked directly with Tiger:
Tiger's official stance is they will contact you however most of us go to Bali with no reception on our Australia numbers. Please keep an eye on your email or head to the airport and Tiger service counter will rebook you.

If you booked with a travel agent:
Speaking from Flight Centre, we have express permission to rebook customers on the next available. I'm not sure what other travel agents are doing. PLEASE contact your travel agent as soon as possible as seats are selling fast on AirAsia/Jetstar.

Gist of what Tiger are doing:
They are offering to rebook you on the next available ECONOMY class ticket, whether that be today or tomorrow. If tomorrow, they will pay for one nights accommodation up to a set limit (so no sneaky one nighter at the W).

They aren't sure on their future flights either as it was a snap decision by the Balinese Indonesian Government so if you are on Tiger for the next few days/weeks, keep an eye out on the Tiger website / get in contact with your travel agent.

Good luck!

      @railspider

I had a quick look for travel alerts from Jetstar & Virgin Australia who frequently fly AUS to DPS.
      Nothing to report.
I have flights from TSV to DPS in early feb.

Perhaps the issue pertains to Tiger only.
I am sure we will learn more soon.

Does anyone have the details of why exactly Tiger are banned from flying from/to Bali?

I think you mean Indonesian government

that's what the Balinese government wants you to think. The balinese government have secretly been controlling the actions of Indonesia for years. Unless the Balinese government has gotten to you too bonezAU, or should I say Joko Widodo….

    • Lol cheers, I wrote it in a hurry.

Partner has a jetstar flight on monday, was about to buy a tigerair ticket today for the following saturday at $388 return, now jetstar is $488.. Kind of, hesitant now.

    • Price match the tiger price with Jetstar

      • Thanks a lot mate, I never knew this was an option

        • Yeah, given that the Tiger option no longer exists, I don't think you'll have much hope… but give it a shot.

          @Adz81:

Purchased flights. They pricematched a 21 jan tiger flight and return 3 weeks later for: $348 (Tiger original was $388)

Also for anyone reading this who is stuck in Bali, please don't abuse airline staff as they have no say and/or impact on how your booking was cancelled with Tiger.

It's like if you were 8 and your friends invited you to a sleep over but your parents said you couldn't go so your friends give you grief over it….out of your control and the cancellation was out of theirs.

This has appeared on JetStar overnight

    Last Updated: 12/01/2017 09:51 AM

Jetstar will provide special discounted fares to Tigerair customers who were booked on flights from Bali that have been cancelled.

These fares will be available on Jetstar flights from Bali to Adelaide, Perth and Melbourne in the coming days (subject to availability). As this is the peak school holiday period we have limited seats available.

Affected Tigerair customers should contact Jetstar customer service to make a booking. Customers will need to provide their Tigerair itinerary when checking-in to their flights at Denpasar Airport.

  • Merged from HELP! Tiger Air cancels flights to Bali - Biggest headache

Hey guys, you may have heard recently in the news regarding Tiger Air and their cancellations on several flights to Bali due to some incorrect licensing ect..
    http://www.smh.com.au/business/aviation/indonesia-blames-lic…

So the most recent update states that they have cancelled all flights from 13th to 20th January. I have flights booked on the 28th Jan. I would prefer to cancel my Tiger flights and re-book with another company (but since flights after the 20th jan have not been declared 'cancelled', it will not be refundable)… I run the risk of sheepishly waiting until the 28th only to find out that the flight is cancelled and will have to scramble trying to purchase quite expensive seats. The other options is to purchase flights now only to find out that Tiger have rectified the issues and will be left with 2 tickets. I was hoping to wait another 24hrs to see if there were any further updates regarding future flights on the Tiger website.

This is really giving me a headache and would really appreciated if anyone could give some advice regarding my next steps..
Flights were purchased via Tigerair website using Bpay whilst the accommodation (also non refundable) were purchased using a credit card.

    thanks guys!

    • You could probably purchase travel insurance. If Tiger cancels your flights, then travel insurance can pay reimburse you for new flights and/or accommodation.

      • I will have to call the credit card company and see what sort of travel insurance is available for trip cancellations. If worse comes to worse I could wait until the day of the trip and if infact the flight is cancelled, hopefully can get the money back. Thanks!

    • From what I have read the issue relates to Tiger selling tickets originating from Indonesia when the terms of their agreement with Indonesia only allows them to sell tickets to Bali with the departure country being Australia.
I also read that Tigers contract/licence to fly into Bali expires in 3 months time.

Personally I would be surprised if Tiger is allowed to into Bali any time soon.
I would imagine its unlikely Indonesia will back down, saving face and all that.

If I was you I would call Tiger and insist on your flight being relocated to Virgin (their parent company).
No doubt you will get the official line to start with, but insist you will not hang up until you get a result.
Ask to speak to their supervisor and dont take no for an answer.
At the end of the day the chances of them screwing you I would suggest are quiet high.

  • Indonesia is just SO corrupt!

They let MANY dangerous Indonesian operators fly. Even their national carrier Garuda was banned from the USA and Europe (thats like Qantas being banned but being allowed by ATSB to continue in Australia). And Garuda is their best!

This is all about money, not safety, which is why they've bothered acting. Their duplicity (in regard to their local airline safety) and corruption of actually grounding an international airline over selling individual one-way instead of 2 way tickets rather than discussing and negotiating a solution exposes their motivation.

I'll continue to fly Tiger anytime (err….as long as their the cheapest safe airline).

    • Indonesia is just SO corrupt!

Yes, it can be detrimental or beneficial depending upon your position at the time.

  • Just to reiterate, if your flight is with Tiger due to leave within the next week and it was booked with a travel agent, PLEASE CONTACT YOUR TRAVEL AGENT FIRST AND DON'T REBOOK ANYTHING YOURSELF!!!!

We have special permission from Tiger to better accommodate our customers and could save your holiday without you having to spend any more.
