  • Worth mentioning that this is the AU PLUS.

Let the price wars begin like last year.

    • Actually, the picture is wrong. Call a BIG W store and you'll see this is the FX100AU (without the PLUS).

      • +1

Ok. I believe most Vic/NSW curriculums require the plus model so worth investigating

        • Hoping the salesperson I spoke with screwed up and this is in fact the PLUS model as it's a ripper price. Maybe others can confirm? Irrespective, will Officeworks pricebeat off the back of the image on the BIG W website as it's showing the PLUS model?

        • @tightarse: Hi I was just from OFW Blacktown and I failed successfully :) They're all aware of the picture difference, someone (or people) has asked them previously today :)

        • @foxmulder:

Got 2 at castle hill today no probs.

        • +1

          @CVonC: Thanks. I might try that :)

        • @foxmulder:

          The boolean is out there.

        • +1

@tightarse: It is the plus model - I grabbed one and it scanned at $18.50 straight away.

      • +3

How do you use it to add numbers if it's missing the plus? 😳

        • +5

          Double minus :)

  • +8

    10 + 2 digits

So we have to buy the calculator in order to calculate out how many digits it has?

  • +3

Fx100au got me into med school. Highly recommend.

    • +4

Shame you didn't let Malcolm borrow it.

Good calculator, use to have one. If buying for your child I recomend learning the functions and teaching them to your child,as my teacher use to say, you cant bring answers to the exam but you can bring instructions on how to use the functions.

    Officeworks price match time.

    This deals adds up, thanks.

  • +5

reliable model… you can always count on it

    • +3

I see that was a very calculated comment

      • +2

Yep, a big plus from me.

        • +2

Honestly don't know why everyone is so negative.

          @sabaramo:

I know right, something doesn't add up here

I bought this calculator cause it was cheap… I have two unopened ones from last year. I am beginning to think I have a problem.

Ozbarganitis - the impulse to buy something purely because it is discounted and not due to an inherent need for it.

    Same with Eneloops…

    • You get recharged when you bought new Eneloops.

Am an Electrical Engineering student and have this as well, awesome calc

To those student who are looking to do Engineering, especially Electrical, buy a calculator like this that can do complex numbers, will save you so much time.

    • Complex numbers..pfft..mine can calcukate stochastic processes

  • Is the prior model plus version FX-82 plus II worth considering?

    • +1

Honestly everyone I know has had an FX-82 from high school to uni.

      • Can't seem to find much info on what the plus has that the non-plus models don't. I did find this on the difference between 82 and 100 non plus versions but it poses more questions than it answers because it says the 100 has more functions but lists a bunch of functionality the 82 has that the 100 doesn't.

I'd like to see a simple table with differences listed. Overseas models have this.
        http://www.education.casio.com/resource/manuals/FX-991EX/Com…

        • Honestly, the differences are probably not even relevant if you are just a student.

Just wait for this https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/231590 to come back.

        • @spaghettiman:

I'm not a student. My kids are only 6 and 8 so if I'm honest this would be more of a toy. Not even sure why I'm interested. When I did my astronomy masters "for fun" 15 years ago I used Excel and didn't really understand back then why people bothered with calculators anymore. (Yes I'm aware of the board of studies approved nonsense).

        • @spaghettiman:

tl;dr get the fx 100 plus and skip the fx 82 models.

Okay I gave up and pulled up the manuals to compare for myself.

          http://support.casio.com/storage/en/manual/pdf/EN/004/fx-100…
          http://support.casio.com/pdf/004/fx-82AU_PLUS_II_E.pdf

Looking at the table of contents and searching it looks like the 100 plus does complex numbers, base-n and vector math but the 82 plus doesn't. The calculators I was use to from the 80s had base-n so why they got rid of it and brought it back I have no idea. But if you do computing subjects or higher level maths or possibly physics I would say the 100 is a decent step up.

Both seem to let you switch between MathIO and LineIO so not sure what that FAQ I linked to earlier is on about. I also don't know what the list based statistics that the FX100 can't do is all about.

        • The website is out dated the updated 100 can do everything that 82 does, including list based statistics.

  • These have polar to rectangular (vice versa) imaginary numbers formats?

    • +1

yep - thats what makes this calculator particularly useful for 4U maths in NSW HSC.

      • +1

why didn't y'all say so. i'm getting these for my grandkids 40 years from now

  • +1

    ah good ol 4U days…

  • My school requires I buy a Texas Graphic TI-84 Plus - $185 new - I could build a computer for less. Currently looking through FleaBay

    • You're lucky, I just had to buy a Casio Classpad 400. $229 at Officeworks. Fortunately I found it online at Staples for 209.90, and using Officework's price beat policy brought it down to just under $200.

Was thinking of posting as a deal, but the price at Staples appears to be the normal price, not on special. Which is a shame, not many people think to check Staples when shopping for school calculators, and it doesn't show in shopbot nor staticice.

  • Worthwhile even for uni engineering (aero, mech, electrical). Makes complex calculations a real simple task.

  • +2

Thanks OP. $17.58 at Officeworks after price match. As soon as I mentioned price match, he asked "Big W?"

    • Should be $14.80 (20% price match)

      • +1

Tried it, but they do the 20% price match only on the school list price (which is normally $45 - $50)

    • Also was able to get it price matched for that price today, in Perth

  • -4

I remember these costing like $350 at school..

    • +1

      living up to your username!

      • -3

        wtf negged for this shit?

a specific type scientific calculator was required advanced maths back at school and uni (engineering), it was like $350..

        • +1

Well most likely cos this type of calculator has never been that expensive since it's not a graphing nor programmable calculator.

  • Anyone seen any good deals on graphing calculators? Partner's daughter needs one for year 11 this year…

    • Wow. Back in our day we had to graph ourselves

      • You mean like this?

        /|\

          @bio:

lol no need to turn it upside down.

    • just use GeoGebra

      • That looks awesome, way better than a pricey Texas Instruments thing I had at school. Looks like it may even be fun! But alas her school won't allow apps, so they have to purchase a dedicated calculator. I assume it's to do with exams, etc.

        • wow i didn't know it was available on phones and tablets now. I only knew of it when it was just on desktop :)

but yeah it's pretty good as there's a whole heap of interactive modules to download. they're user submitted too.

  • +1

Got it at OW for $14.80 after price match :)

    • What… lucky you!

  • Was able to price beat for $14.80 @ Wentworthville :D

  • Coffs Harbour Officeworks would not price match.
