Period Limited Parking Regulations,

So this is a question about the 2P, 1P, 4P sort of signs on the streets for parking.

If the sign says 4P, and limited to between say 10am to 6pm, and the time currently is 2:30pm, would you interpret this such that you can park it until 10am the next day?

I would think so. However the more interesting question is whether you could park until 2 pm the next day. Maybe not, because that's two periods of 4P in one go. Hmm.

    • That is what I was thinking. I can't see anyone enforcing that one; even if it was, technically, the law. The other thing to watch is you can't just go around the block and come back and park in the same parking bay; they will cop you for that one as well.

For my understanding Yes. The sign mean you can park between the sign for the total duration by the time frame shown.

You can park until 2pm next day.
    I did this once.
On the next day I went to get my car 10 mins prior, I saw a parking inspector waiting next to my car.
He said he was targeting my car and if only it was 10 mins late, he would've stuck one on my windshield…

Did he look like this? :)

    • Most of the time I have no issue with the parking inspectors but they can be right B's at times when they do something like that.

As long as there are no other times posted to the contrary for example

  • I actually do this all the time and have never received a fine - particularly as it's about to tick over to the free period on Friday and Saturday nights in the city CBD. I pay for the last half hour or whatever it is before it ticks over and leave my car there all night - however, I don't know the specific legalities around it.

Logically thinking about your scenario above, they can't give you a ticket at 6pm because you've only been there for 3.5 hours and they shouldn't be issuing tickets after 6pm. But then again, lots of these rules are created with no real logic behind it.

They put time restrictions on parking to stop workers parking in spaces all day where businesses want customers to park (or similar). It doesn't matter who parks, or for how long, outside those hours.

I'd happily park in a space for the last hours of parking and leave the car until the next timed period starts + whatever hours are available. (ie 1:59pm the following day in your example)
