I was just looking for a new laptop with a keypad for a colleague and I stumbled upon this as well.
HN apparently sells this the cheapest at the moment - I think the price will increase in 1-3 days
What is your definition of "worth it"?
What will you be using this laptop for?

    Key Features
15.6" HD 1366x768 LED LCD Screen - MEH
    Intel Core i5 4288U Dual Core 2.6GHz (Max 3.1GHz) - Umm…OK
    8GB RAM - OK
256GB Solid State Drive Storage - Great
    1 x HDMI Input - OK
1 x USB 2.0 Port - this is the deal breaker for me
1 x USB 3.0 Port - this is the deal breaker for me
    DVD Drive - OK
    4 in 1 Card Reader - OK
    Webcam - OK
    Bluetooth V4.0 - OK
    802.11 b/g/n Wireless - OK
    Windows 10 Home - OK
Absence of Gigabit LAN and the laptop weighing 2.3kg are also the deal breakers for me.

If you want to get something from a brick & mortar store, this could be it.
This however is just a regular laptop (slightly heavy with full-sized keyboard), not the currently popular ultrabook (lightweight < 1.5 kg).

You can get better laptop < $1000:
    $749 ASUS ZenBook i3/128/4GB/FHD https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/284455
    $920 ASUS ZenBook i5/128/8GB/FHD https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/286583
or if you dont mind refurbished ones:
    Choose any ASUS UX*** http://www.cfonline.com.au/index.php?route=product/category&…
or Dell Latitude from Dell Outlet http://www1.ap.dell.com/content/topics/segtopic.aspx/product…

Thank you so much for the detailed review, likewise the resolution and limited number of usb ports was a deal breaker for me aswell . I use it mainly for Uni, however its the main laptop in the house so will definitely be used for downloading movies, surfing and just the usual things. I guess it is a bit heavy to carry around though.

The ssd was the main thing that captured me

I'll have a look into the links you've provided
      thanks again !!

      • For university you should consider an ultrabook or cheaper device with all-day battery.

The Inspiron 11 3000 series for $319 on the front page is a popular pick for uni students and school students. It's the fastest laptop you can buy for under $350 dollars. It's not on the same level as a Core series, but at least you will have enough spare change to buy a home computer (desktop for e.g)

I would check the Dell Outlet and aim for a refurb unit with a 1080p FHD display.
