Thanks mate. I finally figured it out but took me a long time/phone calls/chats with Kogan to get things done. Sort of intuitive, but the actual procedure after buying the GC is:
1. create account on Kogan (if you don't have one)
2. redeem the GC
3. add the package you want to your cart
4. proceed to check out
5. you'll receive the voucher via email
6. with your new sim card, start activation process and it can only be redeemed before you're service is ACTIVATED.For me they had to delete my account and I needed to start over again the whole process.
How long did it take for the email with the voucher to come through?
@Underlord: apparently they do them manually, i bought two and had one come through in minutes and the other was hours……
As a further update, I've bought two vouchers now. One took less than 10 minutes and the other took about 25 minutes.
