Officeworks - Sonic Executive Chair for PC - Any Opinions ?

Hi

So after missing out on the Herman Miller sale the other day I went to Officeworks today with my Xmas gift card to buy a new chair for sitting at my PC.

After 2 hours of trying chairs and comparing specs etc… I settled on one called the Sonic Executive High Back..at $399
http://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/sonic-execu…

It felt the best at the time…but, after getting it home, unpacking, assembling it seems to wide and really uncomfortable :(

I have fiddled with it all night trying various settings but it either feels like it wants to push me forward out of the chair, or I am struggling with trying to get the back hight and lumbar support right.

I am fairly tall (186cm) and so really wanted to be able to rest my head back onto a headrest, which it has. But the way the rear works is that I can raise or lower the back which also raises and lowers the headrest, however there is a lumbar support which also goes up or down with the back or the chair. So this means in order to get the headrest up to my head height the lumbar support travels up as well and ends up in the middle of my back rather than at my lumber spine area :( It's like sitting with a log across your middle back area.

I'm not sure why the one in the store felt better, maybe I was just over it after 2 hours…but this one I have feels quite uncomfortable and I now have a sore back from trying it out for 5 hours tonight.

Not sure what to do now, if I hadn't unpacked and assembled it I would just return it for something else (my second choice maybe), but it's all together now and I think I'm stuck with it :(

Anyone else had experience with this chair? It's my first mesh back chair.

Perhaps the Herman Miller Aeron feels better, perhaps I should just give this one away and wait for another HM sale. I can claim it as Tax because I have a home business :)

Cheers

Pookie

Take it apart, put it back in the box and take it back. Too much $$$ to not exchange for your second choice. Explain the problems to the officeworks staff, they get this stuff through all the time.

As long as you didnt set fire to the original boxing you should be ok.

    Our Returns Policy

If any product you purchase from us is not fit for its usual purpose or of acceptable quality (through no fault of your own), or you have simply changed your mind we will gladly exchange it, refund it or can arrange for it to be repaired subject to the points below.

    What we ask of you:

1 When returning your purchase please bring your original receipt.
2 Where possible please return the product in its original packaging.

  • With new chairs you need to give your body time to adjust. Your body is not used to sitting in a new position so it naturally wants to slouch.
I went through the same thing with my Ergohuman chair but got over it eventually.

  • I still have the box but threw away the foam packaging and plastic wrap stuff.

I'm worried that if I wait to see if my body will get use to it then Officeworks won't take it back if I decide it's just not for me. I'm thinking a couple of weeks.

I really wanted to steer away from the rubbish 'painted on' fake leather material stuff that always peels off after a year or so. Hence why I opted for mesh, but it's not as comfy as a nice padded back.

I see now an inherent problem with buying an office chair, it's almost impossible to pick the perfect one by just trying out a few in store.

I remain still undecided as to my course of action, however it's good to note their Returns Policy as posted by Scrimshaw above :)

I'll try it some more today and see how I feel tonight.

    Cheers

    Pookie
