Buying PSP 3000 on eBay?

I was looking to buy a PSP 3000 for my younger brother and have been scouring ebay and come across a few that are about $180 delivered. The sellers are Australian based and claim that it's 100% authentic brand new in the box.

I've searched a bit on google and found that most other places charge about $260 brand new for it so I was just wondering if anyone has had any experience with buying a PSP from ebay and whether or not the prices are too good to be true.

Thanks in Advance.

If prices are too good to be true, it usually is..

    I bought a PSP 2000 and sold a 1000 on eBay.
Got the 2000 for $220 bnib and picked it up same day. Mind you, this was YEAAAAARS ago.
I then sold my PSP1000 along with all the games I had(they're worthless since I can put them on myself) for $260.

I had found some bogus ones too. Try to ask if they have pick up or COD. If they say no and their feedback is low and the price is too low then it's probably better you try another listing.

You can't really compare shops to eBay though. Shops have lots of fees to pay whereas eBay has much less. Try to pay with Paypal or cash on pick up, then you'll be safe no matter how cheap it is.

JUST REMEMBER: IF YOU PAY WITH PAYPAL AND THEN OPEN A DISPUTE, DON'T CLOSE IT UNTIL YOU GET WHAT YOU WANT. I was tricked once (not with the PSP, but an iPhone). The scammer said something along the lines of "my father died, close your dispute and i'll post it". I did so, and realised I was unable to open the dispute again. So I had to make a call to Paypal and they manually reopened it for me. Got my money back thankfully.

It's unbelievable how low people will go for a few hundred bucks. People must feel safe to perform these degenerative acts behind their computer.

    • Thanks for the info and the tips :) The people selling have 100% percent positive feedback so that's not a worry.

I know what you mean about low lifes ripping people off, I bid on and won a nokia N95 8gb a couple years back and I naively paid my bank deposit :/ needless to say the phone never arrived so I opened a dispute and he kept claiming it got lost in the post. In the end after threatening to go to the cops he coughed up $400 of the $550 he owed me and claimed he'd send the rest later. The guy was eventually banned from ebay and I never recovered the $150.

It's for that reason that I'm pretty sceptical about ebay now days and try to stick to reputable online shopping stores.

      • Never trust 100% positive feedback. Dodgy sellers often threaten buyers to give them positive feedback or no refund. Some also remove their negative feedback.

  • Personally I would not buy electronics through Ebay, just too many things that could go wrong. Bit like putting your money on red at the roulette wheel.

    However, some general advise below.

If you get a fake you will have to prove it is a fake (like a letter from Sony), otherwise Paypal are unlikely to listen to you. I would assume Sony would have nothing to do with it. There could be a way around this if you get a dishonest seller.

If you ever have to return an item through an item not as described dispute through Paypal only listen to what Paypal tells you. That is send it registered to the address THEY give you.

If you pay with your credit card through Paypal you also have a charge back option through your credit card, maybe redundant but good to know. Could give you longer than the 45 days Paypal gives you.

I always look at the item as described stars (i beleive this is more important than 100% feedback) - if it is below 4.9 you may question the quality of what they are selling.

  • could always be the overseas model (not that it matters since its all the same and no region only on games)

in HK u can get ones for around 1500hk
    sometimes even less
and with the exchange rates being high (was around 7.5 for a while)
u could easily be that cheap!

would be best to get details or check it out before ya buy
not sure if u can get serial number and check with sony if its real (prolly not)

    as a an example
    1380 for psp
very common store in HK (prolly can get cheaper elsewhere its like a Dicksmith)

    this is 200 bucks currently
but when the exchange rate for hk was 7.5
    it would have been 184

    • Cool, thanks for the info everyone :) The guy seems to have a few of psp 3000's that he has sold and even some dsi. I messaged a few of the buyers who brought the psp and they seem to think it's authentic.
