Anchor points for trampoline

Have purchased a jumppod trampoline for daughter at xmas 10ft. I have seen some trampolines the have there own branded archors.
And i have seen on facebook etc of people's trampoline blown away etc.
Im lead to believe even this being 10ft its still light weight.
Anyone tell me best place but also cheapest for anchor points for it that might secure it better.
How do i know what i buy will fit the trampoline i have.
And hopefully something that will last at least as long as the trampoline itself.

  • You could try the biggest tent pegs you can find or drive into the ground. Put them at all different angles with the head over the horizontal bar that is on the ground (assuming you have that).

I have used some 4 medium sized ones on a 15ft and it didn't move in most recent gusty conditions.

When we were away on holidays in July it was blown 50m UP a hill only stopping in a hedge. Twas mangled, but pulled apart and straightened it. Bit squeaky now.

    • So tent pegs never worked then? As you say it blew away.

      • That was before the use of tent pegs

  • Sandbags seems to be the most popular method in our area…

    • Never thought of that

      • Seems to work, we don't have too many flying saucers during storms! ;)

        • I take you can buy the bags from bunnings i noticed they had kits for gazebos that attach.
But did not see similar for trampoline.
Maybe get some bags and fill with sand.

        • @bwatt99: You should be able to just buy bags of builders sand from the section with cement & stuff.

          @StewBalls:

try ringing local building yard. if they sell sand by weight it will be much cheaper.

        • @sandp: Yup, very true…I was just thinking of simplicity for the OP. ;)

  • You can turn them upside down if a storm is approaching. We have two trampolines in our yard (one of them for 18 or so years, second one for 6 years and never had a problem with either of them them being blown away. They are both big though, second one is olympic size, so extremely big and heavy.

    • That would be a pain tbough as would need to unscrew the posts and remove to do this.

      • Oh do you mean you would have to remove safety cage around the trampoline?

Our don't have that, the first one was bought way before safety cages were a thing and the second one is for adults/athletes, so not designed with a safety cage.

  • Just head down to your local Bunnings and buy yourself some of these galvanised rebar pegs (not sure of the exact name for them):

They were only a dollar or two from memory and can be found in the building supplies section. I only use 3 on our 12ft trampoline and it hasn't moved at all since using them and we've had some pretty wild storms.

As you can see from the photos, the peg has those notches/lumps along its length (about 30cm long) and stop it from coming out of the ground (unlike most tent pegs). It's also pretty much out of sight, so no need for ugly sand bags or turning over the trampoline etc as others have mentioned.

I also had to bend the top of the peg (U-shaped part) so it would fit over the tubing/legs of the trampoline.

I use the pliers to remove the pegs from the ground when I need to shift the trampoline and a gypie hammer to bang them back in

    • Cool cheap and looks like i give this a try but how long are they? Would be worried about hitting the pipe work from sprinkler or anything else that maybe under there.
But cheers for the tip might have a look tomorrow.

      • about 30-35cm's long.

I know exactly where my sprinkler pipes run as I installed them…..so I don't have to worry about hitting them.

        • Not that i know anything about the sprinkler pipes but they will either be in line with the nozzles in both directions,so as long as i keep these things away from the lines they might travel.
They look longer that 30cm must be the picture lol.
But hopefully i don't hit any pipes.

How did you come across these did someone tell you or thought give them a try?
But few dollars sounds good. And here was me looking at anchors lol and i read they sometimes dont work.

        • @bwatt99: i tried tent pegs, which were useless and i just happened to stumble across these when i was at bunnings. As soon as i saw them i thought these will do the job nicely

        • @tight-ass:

Cool pegs have been mentioned by a few to me but i probably give these a go hopefully i can find them or they know what im after.

  • I had our 12 ft trampoline go over and cannon into the shed in a storm one week after I purchased it. I was lucky the damage was minimal. I got 5 very large tent pegs and some rope and anchored it to the frame. No problems since. Reasonable easy to move trampoline (with a hammer) every couple of months to keep the grass happy as well.

    • I know what you mean about the grass need to try and move stuff around as sure makes a mess in such a short time.

  • Guys have a few options here sand bags, large tent pegs and the things mentioned by tight-ass which i probably try first.
I know its summer but your never sure when that next storm is lol.

  • I have a 14-foot unit and it comes with thick anchors which are of the screw-in type but my ground is so hard that I cannot screw them in. Waiting for it to rain so I can try it again.

For now, I got all my spare wheels with tyres together and have them weighing it down across all the legs until I get something better. The rebar pegs look like a good idea.

  • screw in tent pegs.. like:

    http://www.bluescrewtentpegs.com/

  • The rebar tight-ass mentioned bunnings dont seem to have it.
So now looking for other options bunnings have various sized tent pegs but wanted cheaper options or something better like tight-ass had.

  • +1

These are what tight-ass was talking about, store i went to today had no clue and never seen anything like it before.
All along its on there site and hopefully in my closest stores.

    Will try again tomorrow.

  • Star Pickets are the go. Drive them 45 degree angle under the trampoline from the corners. Secure trampoline to the pickets.

Available from Bunnings in different lengths.

If you gona use star pickets make sure you get some end-caps for them.

  • Wow im back on this post, well been using these rebar pegs for few years now been great even just got a set start of this year for kids swing set as they come wuth tent type pegs that are hopeless.
Probably they are making swing sets lighter when kids was on it just did not feel safe, so used the smaller rebar pegs.
But as i have been in a few houses the set up of sprinkler pipes can differ.
Yes you would expect that the pop ups are 5 mtr apart you can place pegs wirhin that area. And have been moving them around swing set and tramp.

Water ban is now lifted and was time to check out all sprinklers was ok, back lawn none worked, i then find water coming up to surface of lawn and thats where i had a rebar peg keeping down swing set.
It put a hole in the pipe never knew till now.

Its very strange as you would not expect a pipe to be there and all this time putting these into lawn for tramp and swing set in various palces and checking not in path of where you think pipe would be it made no difference.
Now as much as these rebars was great im now very worried to use again as same might happen.

I have to get pipe fixed next week and hoping there is no other burst pipe elsewhere.

They are 450mm and 400mm long i could cut them down but the pipe did not feel that deep i damaged and would this pegs still hit something i can't see under lawn or would they even hold still.
I know they have been great till now.

This was not the tramp but swing set but it could happen with any of them as using same pegs.

It was suggested i used sand bags but where do i get them looking at bunnings online they have these pack of 10 which you fill of sand but they dont last long outside. Ok they only be used when needed windy day or night but would want to leave them outside but it seems from reviews from others they just fall apart quickly.
So where else can i get sand bags? This would be used on tramp, as for swing set i maybe need to use the pegs that orginally came with but they are crap and maybe use some tent pegs to help. These rebars was ideal for swing set but i really dont want a repeat of burst sprinkler pipes.
