Why Do Physiotherapists in The USA Earn More than Australia?

According to http://www.payscale.com/research/AU/Job=Physiotherapist/Sala…, Australian physiotherapists earn $63k compared to $81k in America.

What is the reason for this?

I think most health professionals in US earn more than their Australian counterparts. Probably because of their shitty healthcare system / insurance situation.

    • Possibly, but I find their level of education for some healthcare professions to be much higher. I spoke to a chiro who trained in the US and they go through almost the same syllabus as a medical doctor.
I found that pharmacists in the US earn 6digits easily in comparison to our Aus counterparts (100k + USD over our 55-70k AUD). I find that the gap of knowledge between them and us is huge after speaking to an individual over there. They have much deeper knowledge of disease states, and in certain situations they can prescribe (if that is their area of speciality).

They do definitely have more elaborate education, especially their pharmacists as you've mentioned. I think it's like a 6 or 7 year degree. But ironically I think the reason for that is also their shitty tertiary education system - they have more filler to justify $500,000 degrees etc. Generally speaking Australian healthcare system achieves very similar outcomes with astronomically less money spent on both education and the healthcare system itself so we're doing something right.

P.S. lol no matter how much you study chiropractic it's still a pseudoscience

  • The only physiotherapist I know earns far more than $63K. Not sure exactly how much but enough to afford a big house in the eastern suburbs of Sydney.

  • You're asking the question as though a reasonable answer exists due to some universal standard that isn't there.

  • Those payscale websites are generally very inaccurate for health professionals.

  • for WA a physio (in public, not sure about private) would start around 70k and after 6 years be around 98K. This is as a base level (graduate) not senior etc

    • Well that is drastically different from what it says in payscales. Thank you for your information
