The Order: 1886 (Pre-Owned) for $9 at EB Games

1180

This one seems cheap for a decent-looking PS4-exclusive title.

Most stores should have it in stock as they're probably overstocked.

The game is reasonably short but it's definitely worth it at that price. The characters are great, the world is beautifully crafted and the visuals are spectacular. Despite all the negative opinions of the game I still really enjoyed it. I enjoyed it enough to actually want a sequel as it would be a shame to let the characters and world they've created go to waste.

Same here, really enjoyed the game. Beautiful world, only down side is it is short.

        Agree, It's pretty cool!

    • How short?

      • +1

        6-8 hours

I like to use this site as a resource

        https://howlongtobeat.com/game.php?id=20067

Helps when making big money decisions…. like $9. lol. My time is usually around the Main+Extras time, which for this game is around 9 hours.

        • +1

Best site ever when deciding the next game to play.

    • Yeah really enjoyed it and the length is not an issue when the price is only $9. It does have its flaws and some aspects of the game can be frustrating like all the nonsense collectibles. Hope a sequel does come out.

    Good find, thanks

Old but I really enjoyed this game. Finished it one day.

Are you saying you're old or the game is old?

Because nothing from this generation is old yet. Besides, you know it's not an old modern game because it doesn't have a remake or a sequel yet B)

A positive about this deal is that the original owner likely only played it for a few hours!

I know our store at least has a HUGE number of copies of this. Truly an underrated game, as someone who struggles to get into the huge open-world blockbusters of today I really enjoyed this. Graphics were excellent and the story was decent, some gameplay segments were kinda poorly designed but overall the combat was still fun and everything wrapped up fairly nicely without it being drawn out.

    • Anyway, you guys are still running boxing day sales? How long is this going to last? Awesome though. :)

      • +1

Not 100% sure on the exact schedule but it will be ending gradually over the next few days. (If there is something you want I would buy it ASAP)

    game is boring

I actually wish they made a sequel for this one. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Granted I only paid about 14 bucks about a year ago, but it was well worth it.

    • +1

Don't call it just yet, they heavily implied they were trying to turn it into a franchise. And Sony wants the edge over Microsoft's UWP so they'll eagerly fund a second iteration. Plus there's a bunch of cliff-hangers at the end, so, they were obviously intending a sequel at some point.

Calling it now though, it'll probably be open world. Because everything HAS TO BE, apparently.

This game is known for its graphics, it's truly one of the best looking Games you will ever see, mind blowing.

The game is a lot of fun too, but game is worth for the visuals and graphics engine alone, it's like a benchmark.

    • Just make sure you're a big fan of quick time events where actual gameplay should be. Because current-gen. Oh you want to fight cool werewolves bosses? Remember to press X to not die.

My pros and cons for The Order: 1886

    Pros
    - It looks pretty great (for when it was released, some games like Uncharted 4 look and play much better, but was released later).
    - Gun-play is solid, although standard weapons are just as effective as the fancier weapons which pop up.
    - Locations look pretty great, and levels are large enough at times to not always feel like a corridor shooter.

    Cons
    - The story is slow and feels like it's part one of a trilogy. Don't want to spoil anything, but there are many unresolved threads.
    - Inspecting items and side content feels lackluster. I mean, looking at a tin of tea adds no real value to anything.
    - Characters are forgettable. I played the game about a year and a half ago and none stand out as memorable.

tl;dr - Was worth the $40 on the week of release, and definitely worth a try for $9. Worst case, you have a game you can admire for the graphics.

  • Top game . I'll blow the cob webs off my copy.

I played this at EB Expo before it came out and enjoyed it, loved what I saw from the trailer, gameplay was decent… but searching for collectibles was pointless and the story was a bit predictable, drawn out and the AI at times was horrible. The Wolves came straight at you and if you struggle with QTE buttons, you'd end up almost dancing in the boss fights

  • I grabbed it for like 25 a year or two ago now, shit that long ago, it was like 2014. Anyway, the game was well worth that much.

Not the best game ever, but it's a fun time and for cheap it's a bargain and a half.

  • Short story, but the presentation of the world and the sheer detail put into it is pretty impressive. It's still one of the best looking games on PS4 even today. I bought it at full price on release day and wasn't regretting my purchase, so $9 is a no-brainer.

  • Great looking game but the quicktime sections against the werewolves are a real buzz kill.

  • Got a copy! Thanks OP!

From the wikipedia: Praise was particularly directed at the game's production value, graphics, and technical achievements, while most criticisms were concerning the length, story, gameplay, replay value, and the overall amount of involvement the player is given.

So, it looks pretty but everything that makes it a GAME isn't that crash hot? Well, for $9 I'll give this movie a go. After all, it's cheaper, and longer, than actually going to the movies.

Don't forget to go into Photo Mode and remove the film grain, vignette etc and save it. What you change in that mode can be applied to gameplay.

  • +1

Plodding, over acted, and frankly boring story. Bog standard shooter mechanics. Sure, the werewolf fights were pretty cool, but you only got one a mission after killing 500 nobodies. Graphics were damned impressive but i just couldn't do it just for the scenery.

Gave up after 2 levels. Wouldn't recommend.

  • Definitely worth $9.

Get the game if you haven't already, and be sure to give this interview with one of the developers from Ready At Dawn a watch: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FV-u5tvQC34

  • Gonna snag one up after work.

  • Good game but so short!
