Optus Cable $90/m deal dead. Want to move me to $140/m for the same servce

Hi everyone,

Came home to find a letter from Optus saying come Feb they will be moving me to the $75/m basics plus bundle (Unlimited data, speed 30MB, calls to mobiles 45c flagfall + 20c/min, unlimited local and STD calls and costs to call international. This deal also has no fetch and not enough to continue my EPL and Cricket subscription for free.

The deal I am on is $90/month, unlimited data, free fetch, EPL and Cricket subscription, unlimited free local, STD, mobile and some international, have a 50MB speed pack as per this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/173745

My question is why can't I continue with my old deal until I choose to leave? Spoke to some useless online chat agents and they said if I want the same inclusions, it will be $140/month….

  • Oh no I think I'm on a similar deal. I hope I don't get the letter. Were you on a contract?

    • Yep, but think it ended in March or April

    • Were you on a contract?

look for the clause where they can give a 30 day notice for changes to the service.

new year, new contracts. optus's suppliers may have increased their prices.

optus's suppliers may have increased their prices.

What are you a shill for Optus?

Wholesale prices only go one way and it isn't up.

      • Wholesale prices only go one way and it isn't up.

Local wholesale prices may not go up, but overseas may have. The aud has drop 13.7% since July 2010. We pay more to our suppliers today compared to 12 months ago. It's reasonable to speculate that Optus are also paying more to their overseas suppliers today than what they did three years ago.

Well after speaking to a truly awesome guy on the phone, he put me on the $110/month Entertainment Plan which has all the same inclusions except speedpack, he gave me a $20/m discount, then included a speedpack that wasn't just 50MB but 100MB and then requested I be sent the new, updated WiFi Fetch Box to replace my old Ethernet Fetch Box.

Didn't even have to reconnect to any contracts. Made my day!

Just had a look at my online portal and I'm now on what they call the "Unlimited Fusion 100mbps"

    Speedtest just showed 80mbps, stoked!

    • Thats great news, glad you got things worked out.

    • That's all stuff you could have just asked for until they gave it to you.

      • Discount, extra speed, new fetch box and a new modem? Just by asking?

        • It really depends who you get on the other side of the line. If however you don't succeed, ask to be transfer to retention. You'll have a better chance over there.

    • I'm on the same $90 Broadband Bundle about to expire on Feb 1 have not received any letter. That $110 pack you are on does it now exclude free 1300 calls? The $90 bundle you were on included that free. Can you confirm please? From what I read about this $110 plan online, it has excluded the 1300 free calls.

      • Looks to be 35c/call to 1300

I suggest you call them (don't bother with online chat, most of them are useless) and speak to retention. You may be able to get a similar deal as the guy above did.

Be firm and polite to them and play the loyalty card.

Also as per your contract you signed and read (you did read it right), they can change your plan at any time to something similar by giving you a 42 days notice period. If you do nothing in those 42 days it is assumed you agree to the new plan.
