Slow Leak on One of My Tyre

Hi just some background info,

car type: Honda Accord EURO (2012)

I have changed tyres around the 2 year mark ( So it was changed in 2015 mid year)

But my tyre recently started to leak slowly, sometimes I need to pump it up every week or if I have more load on my car I would even need to pump it up every 2-3 days.

I don't have much knowledge on it as it is my first car and I don't want to get ripped off.

So can anyone suggests me where to go to get my tyre fix or check ? I'm not sure what kind of places are reliable (kmart auto service ? Bob-Jane T-mart ? )

Any recommendation would be great help!

(I live a sydney near Strathfield)

Thanks in advance!

  • Probably a screw or something has punctured the tyre. Any tyre place will be able to remove and patch the hole with a mushroom style plug from the inside.

Yeah, any tyre place can do it. Depending on the tread left they may say you might as well get a new tyre/new tyres, but you would need to ensure they are not telling fibs and just trying to get more money out of you.

I've had a bad experience with one KTAS and a good experience with another (in relation to a major car service), so it really depends.

Haven't had to in a while, but they shouldn't charge you too much to fix…I think it was around $40 a few years ago from memory, so might be a bit more now. I'm pretty sure it costs a little more if they need lift up the car to take the tyre off and put it back for you. So if you really want to save a little bit, take the tyre off yourself and leave in the boot for them (if you have a spare you can replace with).

    • Everyone I know who went to KTAS got ripped off. They seem to be doing it mostly on females. A simple service for $150 ended up almost $1,000.

I had a punctured tyre fixed 3 months ago for ~$25.

just ring around a few places.

    • Hmmm, maybe I got ripped off then or live in an area that things are more expensive…or am mis-remembering how much I got charged!

    • Which place should I ring up ??
KTAS ? or do you have any suggestions ?

      • independent tyre shops seem to be the best (at least in my area)

Kmart Tyre and Auto (Shell) or Bob Jane - I've had great experiences with both stores. It's not a big deal, they fix it easily and wont charge much. Depending on the location of the leak, you might need a new tyre, but that is very rare.

    • ahh thanks yea okay I will ring them up today to see if I can get a quote.
I hope I don't need to get new tyre because that case I would need to at least replace 2 at the same time…. that's gonna cost more

    http://www.bobjane.com.au/services/puncture-repairs/

You could have a punctured tyre. Try and find where the puncture is and see if it can be repaired.

Bob Jane T-Marts at Haberfield repaired my tyre for $35 a few months back. The service as great!

    • Oh great!!
Do you mind me asking how long does the whole process take ?
I'm thinking to take a day off to do it or just a lunch break if its quick ?

It was like half an hour but it depends on how busy they are that you may not be served immediately. I asked if booking was needed and they said no. We were lucky enough to be served immediately.

Best for you to call to find out more details. Especially to confirm the price.

        • thanks, just called them up and they said it will be 35$ if its just a simple fix.

          Thanks for the info again!

        • @kingSlayer:

No worries, glad to help. I hope yours is just a simple repair with a mushroom plug from the inside. Otherwise it could mean a new tyre or a rim repair.

  • Went to http://mathewstyres.com.au/ in Campsie couple weeks ago (Sunday) to fix my punctured tyre (completely flat), swapped the spare with the fixed tyre, stored the spare in my boot, they charged me $25 and finished the job in 10 minutes.

  • Get them to also check for a cracked rim - these is often the reason for slow leaks besides nails/screws in tyres

  • most places will do it for $25-40. Easy common fix. Takes about 30 mins while you wait.

Time to get a new car mate.

  • Prices are $15 at your local independent mechanic, Kmart was charging $32+, bob jane, etc $35-$40.

Have a look at your tyres to see where the nail is and confirm.
