Do You Use Carwash Joints Or DIY?

I have recently experienced incompetent handling of my vehicle and want to know what other people do!

      Can't you DIY at home?

Yes, if you live in a house.
No, if you live in an apartment block with an underground garage that doesn't have a washing bay.

        • what about on the street/road side parking? a bucket of soap and then a bucket of water to wash it off

        • @k-rokfm: Yep, that's how used to do it when I lived in apartments with underground parking!

Do it myself at home with a pressure cleaner (using tank water).

  • A car wash, no matter what you pay, will never clean your car as well as you will.

It depends a bit on how much you pay but it also depends on how inept/lazy you are.

Up until recent purchase of pressure washer, I would typically go to car wash and use the wash bays.

$1 for soap - first lap of car whilst dispensing soap with brush, second lap to scrub more. It tends to dry out by end of second lap.
$1 for high pressure rinse - and if I am quick enough use the waxing rinse whilst walking very quickly around car again.

Depends on car, our dual cab 4x4 is a bit harder to get around in the time due to roof being higher. Commo wagon and Lancer easy to do in the time.

Not as thorough as a home wash with a bucket, but do get decent result as long as car is not filthy.

I got lucky one day and the machine just kept going, I was there for 15 minutes, even did the engine bay.

Troll post, please consider this is OzBargain

  • I try to give it a proper DIY wash every 2 weeks but if I don't have the time I take it to an automatic touchless carwash which gives it a good superficial wash to last the week.
