Theres a great deal of forum posts on Japan itinerary for your exact timeframe. Have a look: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/search/node/japan+category:3818…

Dont do a group tour. Look at previous posts. Also do random stuff.

Also it will be hot and humid at that time so if you can stand the heat then have a great time!

  • Summer is fireworks season in Japan.
Look up the dates for these events Fireworks in Japan

  • Thanks for the post guys, looked at a few deals on here, expensive Japan with a 3 hour tour like $130 dollars per person on a Tokyo tour wow, of course with 15% off still costly kind of tour. Yeah I don't mind the heat, going to visit my Wife family in Guangzhou, China so looking at oneway flights to either Osaka or Tokyo and look around Mt Fuji as well other then that not much else plan for the two Weeks, then looking to head back to Oz via Cairns unless there a cheaper option here back to Oz, please kindly advise.

    • The rail network is intimidating but incredible - you can go anywhere you like in Tokyo. Grab a map, start in Shinkjuku and do a few of the tourist hot spots. Harijuku is one of my favourites. Shibuya is cool too. Akihabara for technology.

Only advice is avoid dead on peak times for travel - it's exactly like you see on TV and it's jam packed. Do an hour before or after and it's a little more manageable.

  • if you go to Tokyo you must see this: The Robot Bar in Shinjuku was amazing

  • Depends on what you like doing. There are heaps of attractions just in Tokyo alone. Perhaps you can engage in a free guide as I know professional tour guides are expensive. http://www.tokyofreeguide.org/

Eat on the go during the day but try out some nice restaurants during the night.
Make a day trip out to the more rural areas where the period years are still well preserved but perhaps rather touristy (eg. Kawagoe, nikko, kamakura.

If it's going to be your last trip to japan then I would suggest doing Kyoto/Osaka/ Nara or Kobe even. But for two weeks even Tokyo alone is not enough IMO.

    Have a great trip!

  • With around two weeks to play with I would probably do something along the lines of Tokyo, Kyoto, and a bit of time somewhere rural and in the mountains to escape the heat. Actually, it's not really the heat that's the problem at that time, it's the humidity which can be really sapping. Still, no reason not to go though.

From Tokyo, Karuizawa is a nice place to spend a the night. In the foothills of some mountains in Nagano it's a great place to rent a bike and cycle round at a relaxed pace. There are hiking options, shopping, a bit of sightseeing, really nice cafes and bakeries and a range of different places to stay. Easy to get to from Tokyo; around 1 hr on a Shinkansen from Ueno Station. It would also be worth heading down the coast from Tokyo to have a look at Kamakura, Yokohama, and the beaches around Enoshima where you might get a chance to see Mt. Fuji.

Kyoto speaks for itself, I guess although it will be as hot as hell down there. Loads to see though, and would be a shame to miss, in my opinion. Plus, from there you could go and see Himeji Castle which is pretty spectacular.

    • Thank you, Looking to go to Flight Centre and Escape Travel to see what they got to offer, looking more October now since the flights are much cheaper then and the weather is better.
