24 months contract. Would let it go.

    • Pretty average "deals" too tbh

    • +5

Hi there. As we are including a device, we run it with a 24 month contract. However if you are not after the XBox we do offer month to month contracts.

  • +9

"Our NBN Broadband Services are provided as a best efforts internet service. "

I do like that statement for some reason, fills me with confidence :)

    • +1

      "Hey, at least we tried!"

    • +2

Hi Japius, we are required to state the above under legislation.

      • +4

I thought, it's to cover your arses.

    • +2

Yes that is the ridiculous legislation that wired telcos act under. God forbid they actually promise to provide a certain level of service.

      • +9

Sounds about right for the Liberal's half arsed NBN.

    • +1

You'll find that all providers, including the one you are using, have that proviso or something to that effect in their broadband contracts. Nothing sinister about it.

    • +5

I'd like to pay them on a best effort basis, but then they'd cut my service.

  • -1

    Yeah Naaaaaaaaaaah

  • +2

    You pay $10/mo extra…??? Last I seen Xbox one S was $299… You're charging $240 for it.

Total incentive: $59 for a 24mo contract… Pretty average considering prices aren't that competitive.

    • +3

To be fair, $59 a month for 25/5 unlimited downloads is actually fairly competitive. Is there anything cheaper?

      • +3

LOL - check this out please 100/40 unlimited $59.99 https://myrepublic.net/au/personal/nbn/pricing/

        • That's obviously a better price, however this isp has big question marks over it at the moment. If they're getting good reviews in 6 months I'll be all in.

I guess this isp also has question marks.

        • @thisispants: well yea they both have issues, but myrepublic seems to have better record in Malaysia. TBH no one should lock themselves in for an internet service for 24 months just for a Xbox.

      • It's priced elsewhere on their site as if unlimited is seen as around the 500GB mark.

        Either:
A: In line with this, it is considered fair use up to around the 500GB mark.
B: They're overselling and you're not going to be able to use much over that as is.

With this in mind, if we consider it equal to a 500GB package it's on par with most other everyday offerings from budget NBN providers. ie Teleron $59/mo for 500GB 25/5. Note this is a comparison to everyday prices, Telerons 25/5 offering was recently $45/mo.

Tl;Dr: unlimited is never real at these prices. Either they have a figure in mind or they don't care at all and it's a free for all of bandwidth hogging between you and other customers.

        • Hi Dyl

Like all providers we do work within contention ratios, on average users use less than 250GB per month in Downloads.

However, we do not set a cap on our customers internet usage and upgrade our capacity as required to handle spikes in data and also users who use a high amount of bandwidth. As an example, I know of one of our customers who uses at least 2TB of transit per month on one of our 100/40 NBN Plans and another on a 25/5 Plan who uses an average of 1TB per month. Neither of these customers get any form of speed limitations added to their plans and like all of our customers are free to use how ever much they would like to. Of course at times this does result in these plans not being as beneficial to us as a plan for a user with a lower download usage, but that is part of offering a quality service to customers.

We have made the decision to offer our plans as unlimited and do understand that some users will use a high amount of downloads, however the fair majority of users do not use a high amount of downloads and we are able to balance out the services to still provide a high level of service, whilst keeping our costs down.

We constantly monitor our network to ensure that we do not exceed 80% of our committed bandwidth, with us requesting upgrades from our providers if we start exceeding 75%. Even if we were to reach 100% of our committed bandwidth, we do have burst bandwidth available to us which would allow for random spikes, we are able to burst up to 2Gbps past our committed bandwidth allocations and to be honest with how heavily our network is monitored this has never had to happen.

We are a budget provider, but we are also trying to change the way people look at budget providers by offering our services at a reasonable price, whilst still offering a high quality service and 24/7/365 Australian Based Support.

        • @BuzzTelco: I am with TPG, I suffer zero throttling, no matter how much I download. ALL the time, no maybe we can't handle load sometimes.

        • -2

@BuzzTelco: Price, speed and reliability pick 2 nobody offers all 3

  • +10

Hang on, so it's not included in the normal price, you actually have to pay an extra $10 a month. Not sure I'd classify that as a bargain.

    • as i understood, its included in $59 a month

      • +5

I think you will find you are wrong there.

  • +3

I just want NBN in my area. :(. Last I checked it hasn't even started. Stupid safe liberal seat

  • +2

It's not really included if it's an extra $10 a month.

  • Still after upgrading to NBN "local telephone exchange, the quality of your phone line, cabling and the equipment you use." we have to bear this from telcos, this has been a long time getaway statement from telcos to piss off customers when really there is a problem but is blamed on these stuff, I dont think so NBN should have local exchange distance issue.

    • +1

      Hello Sajidmib

Unfortunately, this stuff does still come into play with NBN (especially when offered over FTTN). This is something that NBN even openly admit to on their website (http://www.nbnco.com.au/learn-about-the-nbn/speed.html). Also, with the new Guarantee of only 25/5 for NBN FTTN Services it is something that is just going to get worse over time. There is a silver lining though, NBN are actually willing to investigate and fix issues caused by the phone line and with a much smaller distance between the node and your house (compared to from the exchange) line issues do not tend to appear as often.

We have had a few issues in the past with customers who's lines haven't been able to handle the speeds delivered by NBN and we have had to had their lines repaired/replaced. One thing we have noticed with this is that NBN are a lot more willing to act in relation to this than Telstra were.
