Trouble Connecting to Boost w/Samsung GTI9100, Help?

Hi all,

Okay, I'm just stumped. I tried the activated SIM in a spare Telstra mobile (Lumia 532) I have & it works, so I know it isn't a SIM issue.

The old fella I'm trying to help said a friend had given him this mobile a couple years back. I have no idea where it was originally purchased. The last SIM was a Vodafone (no plan) & worked fine until I ported the number to Boost— now, using it in that same mobile, all I get is "no service"? The screen shows Optus icons, but when I went to their unlock site, it said it was not an Optus mobile?

I've tried entering the APN as both telstra.iph & .wap & still nothing. I tried restarting the mobile & such after changes- no go.

Anyone here have other ideas?

  • Phone doesn't support 850mhz, and no 2100 in your area.

  • It was literally just being used, minutes before porting from Vodafone to Boost?

    • Different networks use different frequencies.

  • Both Voda & Boost (Telstra) use "850MHz (3G) 900Mhz, 1800Mhz,2100MHz (3G)" & the mobile supposedly supports those?

I noticed this in the info section: kernel version 2.6.29, root@SE-S604 #2

I have no idea if that's stock or a root & if so, could that be the trouble?

Also, noticed that under the battery, the IMEI no. has /'s in it— which I'd not seen on AU mobiles before?

    • +1

Optus s2, in my understanding doesn't support 850mhz. The Telstra version does, and this model is i9100t.

  • Interesting thread: http://androidforums.com/threads/how-to-enable-850mhz-3g-net…

I was able to activate the 850, but it still wouldn't allow me to connect to Telstra (though it did actually show as a "network operator" which is the first I'd seen it on the phone).

Goes to show it's been definitely "crippled" to prevent the 850 connectivity!

  • Is there a decent, outright mobile (looking at Mobiciti) around $100, that anyone here can verify works with Boost?

Nothing flash, just good overall (camera, battery, wifi connection/hotspot stable).

    Ta!
