Colour Printer - Laser Brother MFC 9330 or Epson Ecotank

Hi all,

I went to HN with a set mind to get Brother Laser Printer MFC9330CDW and use my AMEX. I am going to use it for occasional use home office and kids projects. I did my research and concluded that Laser is better for me, no clogging, quick, and also check eBay for toners cost.

Walked in to HN, the salesman showed me the Epson Ecotank 4550 (Hey, I didn't know this one exist!!). Basically this one is continuous ink system, built by EPSON. This is inkjet. The price was $680s compare to Brother MFC 9330CDW $380s

I was wondering if Ozbargainers can give me their opinions about this Epson, or should I stick with Laser Brother MFC 9330 CDW?

Many thanks

  • Why would you listen to a salesperson in Harvey Norman? He/she is not interested in giving you a good deal.

  • So true

  • We have the brother Mfc9330cdw. It's great and easy to use especially if you get it under $300. Toners are easily replaced with generics. Also allows AirPrint from iPads for printing etc.

    • Thanks Allan. It seems thats what we ate getting. I had bad experience with inkjet and dont want to spend $600.

  • +2

The new ecotanks run rings around the expensive to run brother that will cost you 1200+ in consumables over the same time that the ecotank lasts, I am sure you get 2 years free ink with the Epson, the ink is more likea dry gel and it certainly gives laser based speed and print quality

I had seen the ecotank machines and they are awesome, dont even compare them to the inkjets of yesteryear.

work out your running cost and long term consumables vs saving a buck now, but you can make your own choices / check out the pros and cons of each unit
