Help Me Pick New TV ~ 55" $1000

I need a new TV about 55 inch and around $1000. After having a look at the JB page this are the ones that seem to be interesting.

Samsung KU6000 55" 4K UHD HDR Smart LED LCD TV
Panasonic Viera TH-55DX600U 55" 4K UHD Smart LED LCD TV
LG 55UH615T 55" 4K UHD HDR Smart LED LCD TV
Sony X7000D 55" 4K UHD HDR Android Smart LCD LED TV

Besides the Pana all seem to have HDR. Anyone using one of the listed TV's and could share how happy/unhappy with it?

Thanks

  • I own the LG 615

    I will say 9/10 easy

    6 step upscaler
    100hz true refresh rate
10bit Proper HDR not 8bit emulated junk or trickery
IPS Panel (some people moan about the black / viewing angle - had zero issues)
    Low input lag for gaming
    Does chroma 4:4:4
    Wifi / Network port
Netflix inbuilt - does 4k no worries, streams perfectly over inbuilt tv wifi
I have foxtel Platinum over iq3, seems fine

I got mine for 980 at the GG

Very happy but I guess its up to you how you feel about each TV

    • I do have a favourite but it wasn't the lg one. That's why I didn't say anything so I don't influence the results.

      Thank you for the feedback.

      • I went with LG because it seemed to tick all the boxes I had at the time
Very happy with my purchase so far

If you can look in store at each set it will give a baseline look at how well it will suit your environment
if you can play with the set in store, try and ask the sales guy for a remote

        • How happy are you with its os? Can apps be added like with Android TV's

        • @dosada:

Im very happy with WebOS, I don't think its android based as its way too snappy for that, the stock apps seem fine with no lag or menu issues, the whole tv seems very fluid, even had an update out of the box, this is advantage of buying brand names, you are getting updates

I bought the TV for netflix, youtube, gaming, PC usage, iq3 foxtel and so far its handled all that by itself with ease, I have no need to sideload apps into a TV and feel other brands that allow this really are just gimmicks more so than "real world" features, the input lag was very low for me even in 4k mode, being able to use HDR with my xbox one S is also great, supports full 10bit colour support which makes a difference in gears of war 4

Also a big thing for me, no hidden ads inside menus, cough samsung is poor for this issue, even putting it into software updates.

        • @dosada: LG has by far the best OS for Smart TVs. If you want to sideload Android apps just buy a cheap standalone unit like the Xiaomi miBox which runs the proper Android TV build and can do 4K Netflix :)

  • I suggest LG then Samsung.

I suggest the sony, The functionality of built in Android is very powerful also snappy enough in my experience. Using an external device for Android kills the experience.

The other thing to consider is that for the average person 4k is not worth the extra cost, power consumption, size, and generally lower refresh rates than standard HD units. The cheap 4k TVs will have lower overall picture quality than their HD equivalent. You need to spend a lot more to make it worthwhile selecting over much cheaper HD sets.

    • Never been happy with Sony
Android feels slow and buggy on a TV set but never really seen it implemented well
Does the sony actually doing proper 10bit HDR
that was the deal breaker for me
Proper 10bit HDR and low input lag
The LG ticks all my happiness boxes

I dunno the Android experience on my Sony set is perfect, I find WebOS very basic by comparison but I do like the magic remote (extra $$) . Android is used by 1.5 billion people the support is excellent.

The problem with the cheap LG sets is they suffer from DSE (Dirty screen effect) and have a very cheap 4k implementation so cannot be used as computer monitors for example. Other than that its a good set for the price. But all being said and done Id avoid all these sets unless you have hordes of 4K material, save my money buy a cheaper HD with better picture quality and wait for the price of OLED to come down.

  • I was deciding on all those same options
Went for the samsung ks8000 for $1486

    • How are you finding KS8000 and is it much different to KS8005 if you know. Asking because both models are available at Costco and struggling which one to go for.

      • I am also comparing KS8000 55 inch and KS8005 65 inch, I am more toward KS8005 65 inch, hope both have exactly same tech spec /features. what did you decide to buy ? Please share your experience

        • I haven't been able to decide yet - though like yourself leaning towards KS8005. However, I thought KS8005 only offers 60 inch and not 65 inch.

  • Just in case someone is in the same situation. Ended up getting the LG and really love it. I do miss a few Android apps I had on my Sony but it's definitely worth it.

    • why is it worth it?

  • samsung ftw have got one of these at home and can't complain
