Lenovo Unveils New ThinkPad Lineup - T470, T570, X270, Yoga 370, ThinkPad 13 with Thunderbolt 3, Optane & Precision TouchPad

Some people are excited about new MacBooks, but for me it's the new ThinkPads. Lenovo just revealed updated ThinkPad T, L and X series with these changes:

  • Intel Optane caching drives on selected models
  • Microsoft Precision TouchPad drivers
  • USB Type C & Thunderbolt 3
  • Windows 10 Signature Edition

Thunderbolt 3 across the board (except T470P & ThinkPad 13, which seems to only have USB 3.1 Type C) would be very useful for generic docking solutions and external GPU. I can see people buying more X270 & T470s to bring on the road and game on those with eGPU at home.

Updated P-series workstations and X1 Carbon will be released in February 2017.

  • Yuck. The T470(p) is still using a 940 MX GPU. Lenovo are still cheaping out where it matters.
If I see anymore plastic on the T470p, I will stick to Dell.

Hope the battery life is good too.

Right now, the Dell Latitude 14 7000 is my choice for business laptops. HP Z books and Dell Precision are my choices for workstation laptops.

    • +2

      Dell Latitude 14 7000

Latitudes don't have plastic shell? Also E7450 only has GT 840m and E7470 does not even have DGPU as option. Cheaping out where it matters? Or maybe gaming GPU just does not really matter on business laptop anyway. Made to order Latitude on Dell's website is also a lot more expensive than equivalent ThinkPade T-series.

It's magnesium or carbon fibre in the case of the 7000 series.

The E7470 is more of an ultrabook. I believe the 5000 series has the dGPU option.

If you want made to order from Dell, it's best to buy in bulk so you get massive discounts from Dell. There's always the dell outlet for an even bigger saving. Refurbished E7470 can be bought from $800 and 'As New' from around $1050+.
The E7470 is my current daily driver. I can't really fault it.
Great battery life, keyboard, FHD screen, touchpad, build quality and very customisable.

        • dont fret. the T470 will have an Intel only option. There's no need for the the 940.

        • @tonyjzx:

It just needs to have everything that the Dell Latitude has and I will consider getting it.

Battery life being the most important.

  • Which is the pick of the 13" or 14" laptops for bang/buck?

  • X1 Carbon specs can be viewed here, not sure how to browse to that page from the Australian site: http://www3.lenovo.com/ca/en/new-products/ThinkPad-X1-Carbon…

  • Anybody know if Lenovo are going to do any Pascal laptops at all? Obviously the laptops announced are not their workstation level ones, but I haven't heard a peep from them in that regard and it's been long enough I'm wondering if they ever will.

So it seems released now, though $1799 starting price

    • Let's see how soon are they going to discount it. OzBargainers don't pay full price…
