LEGO Brand New Set - Where and How You Store It ?

With so many Lego on sale in the November & December, my Lego collection is getting to a point where I have to ask myself where & how to store it. I'm interested to be a Lego investor. From COTD helicopter to Mindstorms target-ebay sale (plus Myer-ebay sale too).

Any tips & suggestions about how you store it, so it won't damage the set ? By the time I sell it, I want the set to be still 100% perfect condition.
I tried plastic container, but some big Lego won't even fit to be put in there. If I put in the carton, will it damage the BNIB set ? Any other idea ?

Thanks.

  • I personally made wooden boxes for them

Are you trying to sell MISB? If so, a loft or any sort of climate-controlled storage. For me, I open sets and rotate 'display' sets, so newer ones will actually be in the house. Older or more boring sets will be dismantled and put in ziplock bags labelled with the set number and instruction manual, then stored away in large plastic tubs in the attic.

I'm interested to be a Lego investor.

IMO, buy sets you want, don't assume you'll make bank with Lego. It takes a lot of capital, you'll have to broden sales, have a lot of storage, and it seems like a lot of work. TLG is getting smarter at predicting demand too, e.g. older modular sets like Green Grocer or Cafe Corner weren't produced in sufficient quantities, so their resale value is absurd. Recent ones are made in larger quantities and sold for longer, e.g. Palace Cinema came out in 2013 and can still be bought from S@H. Also, there's the possibility that TLG can re-release a desirable set, or release a similar enough one to tank its grey market value, e.g. UCS X-wing.

    • Thanks for your input.
      1. In regards to Storage, I'm planning to buy LEGO based on the set that I like, but I have no plan to open the box. So yes, I want to keep it in Mint condition, if possible. At the moment I tried to stack them (max 4 lego-sets), based on the the same box size. I don't want to damage the bottom set. Probably I change the rotation from vertical to horizontal, etc.
      2. In regards to Investing, I'm doing it just for fun. But thanks again for the input. It really makes sense.

  • Vacuum seal them and store at room temp or lower away from light.

    • For the boxes, would you flatten them and then re-assemble when needed to resell?

Build a box out if Lego to store them in.

Take it out of the box and build the damn thing. Lego investor? What a crock of …

  • I think I need to mention that I'm not going to open the set.
I want to keep it as good condition as possible).
So vacuum them, build a box out, take out of the box are not an option (in this case).
