Lenovo ThinkPad T460s vs Dell XPS 13 vs ?

I need to buy a laptop before these sales are over and I think I've narrowed it down to these two options, but am open to any others. I am going to use the laptop for work and university (software) so they both fit my needs well. I'd have already bought the T460s if it weren't for so many complaints about the battery life.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • I have a cheapo E560 and I get 9 hours to the battery easy
I would go with the t460 over dell anyday, better build quality and reliability long term
battery complaints are a moot point

    • Yeah, I've heard the t460 is great with battery life, but the discounts on it are fairly non-existent. The t460s has some solid discounts but doesn't have very good battery life from the slimming down they did. I think I'll probably go with the t460s in the end, but I really can't decide as of yet.

  • Get the XPS13. Has the build quality and battery life of a business laptop.

The t460s is a let down.

The XPS13 comes with a Kaby Lake processor and a better battery too

    • debatable, depending on your work environment, as a travelling tech I can assure you the Lenovo has outdone any dell I have ever bought

      • I have no problems with Dell, especially their latitude line.

Lenovo has started using plastic in their business laptops, so I avoid them.

        • Im happy with my E560
Much better than any dell and with a 3 year on site warranty for under 1000 I can't complain
Dell lost me once they started using techs who didn't care less how to repair equipment and months for parts
Lenovos been trouble free so far and the minor Issue I did have it was fixed promptly

  • I have a Dell XPS13 at home and I'm writing this on my work T460s.
I'd go with the T460s. I barely use the Dell, and prefer my MacBook Air. The Dell's keyboard is not great and the trackpad on my machine is just horrible.
The T460s on the other hand feels like a really solid machine.
