Similar to the last deal a month ago: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/277498, but without the further $20 drop (yet?).

Just your standard desktop AC-powered external HDD, with plenty of storage space. Probably a SMR drive inside, so maybe not so fast for random access, but good for bulk data storage. Don't forget to keep backups!

Lowest it's been since November, and probably won't go that low again without Black Friday etc.: http://camelcamelcamel.com/Seagate-Expansion-Desktop-Externa…, still far cheaper than any AU shops: http://www.staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search.cgi?q=8TB+Externa…

  • I've been watching this since my last order was cancelled after it got damaged in transit… fingers crossed that this one makes it!

  • Where do you get AU power supply for these drives? I hate using a US to AU adapter

I have no idea how you'd go about sourcing an item like that but have you considered using the drive as an internal HDD?
You'd sacrifice portability but you could free up a power socket and not have to deal with an adapter.
It's not what you asked so I understand if you already considered it and were specifically avoiding doing this, if so disregard this post.

      • This is festivity time mate. Upvoted. :)
Unfortunately, I want this specifically as an external drive.

In theory, any 12V/1A adapter with the right polarity would work. In practice, I find adapters easier, especially as a solid powerboard instead of the shoddy $1 adapters off ebay.

      • You are right about any correct voltage and amps adapter should work but where to get one of those with proper C tick? I hate adapter with a passion and carry or buy a whole power board just for one hard drive is a bit extreme :(

I picked one up from Jaycar when our router's adapter died. Was about $10. That one had the tick.

        • @elusive: cheers! I'll do a walkabout!

dont they normaly come with a plug set for everywere ?

      • I don't think so. Unless someone has this one specifically tell me that's I'm wrong

I bought a couple when they were $169.99 US + delivery 3 weeks ago, they should drop more if not needed urgently.

  • need about 4 of these babies, might just wait a little longer, be great if the 10TB HDDs would come back down more!

Exchange rate is starting to sting

    • Yea, 0.72… ugh.
