Where to Get Motorcycle Gear

Hey,

Looking into riding motorbikes soon (I am completely new to riding) and was thinking about gear budgets. Now with the ozbargain way of things I was wondering where I can get the same gear for cheaper.

I don't mean cheap as in low quality, I mean similar to how people might order shoes, clothing or tech from overseas or online to save from the inflated "Australia Tax" prices we pay here.

Helmet I am getting from local shops though to have the Aussie standard approved sticker. I want to find jackets & gloves online though if I can. Possibly pants and boots but I haven't decided whether to buy those at all yet - should I buy those?

Any help is appreciated :) Cheers

Aldi regularly (as in probably twice a year at least) have motorcycle gear on sale. Leather and gortex options for jackets, pants, gloves. And it's all very solid gear at a great price. You won't win any fashion contests but it's great for a beginner as it won't break the bank but it's safe.

The next cheapest option is probably the Joe Rocket brand (eg here for instance ). Their gear is very solid for the price and is quite fitted but choc full of padding. Their boots are also pretty okay, not the most comfortable in the world but a great price and very solid safely-wise.

Last option is to check out MCAS and see what's on sale. They will often have good sales on certain brands of gear and helmets.

Lastly, whatever you do, don't get any gear second hand. It's just not worth it - you don't know the quality and wear of the gear and you only get one set of skin (and it'll melt like hot butter if it hits the road unprotected).

    Good luck and ride safely!

        No probs!

        And quickly, regarding:

Possibly pants and boots but I haven't decided whether to buy those at all yet - should I buy those?

100% yes. Helmet, jacket, gloves, pants, boots. There's a mantra for any sensible bike rider: ATGATT. All The Gear All The Time. Remember in a car you have a seatbelt, airbags, roll cage, crumple zones, safety glass. On a bike you have… Clothes. That's all that separates you and the road/tree/car/gutter/metal shard. If you need any convincing or ever feel like riding anywhere (doesn't matter how short the ride) without gear, just google "motorbike accident with no gear" and you'll change your mind.

Regular clothes/jeans hitting the road at 60kmph will be gone in under a second, then it's like a cheese grater on your skin/bone. Total gear coverage is way better and cheaper than skin grafts.

So definitely make sure every piece of your skin is covered with proper certified gear before riding anywhere.

This +ve eleventy billion times. Never pretty that grated skin against asphalt.

try Peter Stevens online. I regularly go through their (& others) bargain pages.

The current promotion knocks further discounts off from the 'discounted price'. I bought a selection of goods that was discounted at $360 and then down to $220. the helmet alone was $300 rrp. they may only have one/few of each hence the pricing.

others I check regularly (look for clearance/bargain links)

We have a huge outlet on the Gold Coast - Shark Leathers - on the Comps page you can subscribe for a chance to win a Honda Grom - have some great gear at great prices. Bought all my gear there.

  • If you are looking to kit yourself out, be prepared to haggle the old fashioned way even when using large MC centres like BikeBiz and MCAS.

Biking is not cheap though; ALDI is the way to go when they have things in stock, though I'm loathe to trust their gear.
