Philips Hue B22 2nd Gen Starter Kit £86.99 (AU $149) @ Amazon UK

40

Philips Hue B22 Starter Kit on sale today only for £86.99 (AU $149). According to camelcamelcamel its a good price (the history is limited) http://uk.camelcamelcamel.com/Philips-Ambience-Wireless-Ligh…

These seem to be the older generation bulbs (2nd generation which have less colour range and brightness than the 3rd gen bulbs), but it includes the latest hue bridge.

The models are really hard to compare and contrast but the cheapest I could previously find was: http://www.smarthome.com.au/hue-starter-pack-v2-3-colour-glo… for (AU $279 shipped). AFAIK you wont find the b22 starter kit in Australian retailers only the Edison screw version.

Note about the hue lighting system: These are definitely not the cheapest option for smart lighting. However they offer a large amount of flexibility and perform better than a lot of cheaper bulbs. They also seem to have the largest developer community.

    Good price, but gen 2

    • For me it was worth the $130 cost saving and the bulbs can always be purchased later.
Thanks for the info I will update the post.

      • I really prefer the 3rd gen but would this be a good deal if I used the 2nd gen bulbs for lamps and buy 3rd gen bulbs each separately for ceiling lights?

        • From my reading it didn't seem like the 3rd gen bulbs were significantly better to justify the cost. I don't know how many lights you plan on having in your room, or how much you wish to spend.

I personally wanted the best value bundle to start using the system, and this bayonet version is not as widely sold.
