Price match Bunnings $14.40 for the bulbs
Or the kits for $49.50

I have purchased a few of these bulbs, the Belkin app is complete rubbish IMO but I have run these with IFTTT and my google home and they work quite well.
Google have announced a partnership with Belkin soon, So the wemo/google integration should improve..
Have fun and happy bargaining 😊

This is part of Boxing Day Sales for 2016

$15 is the price point where connected light bulbs become really interesting to me. Pity you need a hub also though.

  • The Insight switch is also on clearance for $69.95, usually around $99.

    LIFX 4 LYFE, yo!

  • I wish someone made a smart light switch that uses a live wire only, like the Aqara ones but for Australian standards. It's super annoying that most smart switches require a neutral wire so I can't install them myself easily.

    • Neutral or no neutral, you can't legally install them yourself in Australia anyway….

      • Huh, I thought I'm only not allowed to run wires inside walls myself.

What about replacing a light bulb?

        • From here
Thankfully, a spokeswoman for Energy Safe Victoria has good news.

“I can confirm that it is not illegal to change a light bulb in Victoria,” she told news.com.au.
“While the Electricity Safety Act makes it illegal to do your own electrical work if you are not licensed, changing a light bulb and removing a plug from a socket were specifically exempted from this requirement under Order in Council G17.”

Light bulbs are fine but if you want a switch and you're talking about neutral wires, you need a licensed electrician.

I've done a lot of research into this and what you actually want is an amazon echo (or google home in a few updates) and zwave connectors that sit behind your light switch. That way you have a regular light switch but it's also smart as you can tell alexa to turn it on or off as long as your zwave hub (vera plus is due to come to Aus in Q1) can talk to your amazon echo or google home.

          @nathanh29:

Oh well. There goes my dream of smartifying my house on the cheap.

Seriously though, it's not that hard to change a switch. The law just makes people lazy and less willing to learn the basic skills of life. I guess governments don't like the population to be smart…

        • @cynix: it was introduced to protect the stupid & the sparkie's jobs.

    You mean earth?

    • Nope I meant neutral.

If you look at the WeMo Light Switch for example, it says a neutral wire is needed in addition to the live/load wire. Many existing wall switch boxes don't have the neutral wire since it's not needed for a mechanical switch.

    • He means neutral.

The neutral wire returns the electricity back to the source to complete the circuit.

Earth is the green/yellow one and grounds the device at the device itself.

      • Yeah that's why I thought it was strange.

  • Got the starter kit from HN for $55 as gift for dad. Plugged them in and using them today but not very bright.

Anyway not too expensive for some good control lighting when not home.

  • Went to Bunnings yesterday to price beat. The starter kit scanned up at $54.

    • So then you went to Officeworks to…
